At what resolution are you playing?
I had similar performance issues and it turned out that playing at resolutions higher than 1080p comes ate huge performance costs.

Re: SLOW Performance Issues: post here to report
Hello everybody!
Big fan of Wesnoth here.
I have got a strangest problem - in multiplayer, every time when i make a command like recruit or fighting, the game freezes for 10-20 seconds before the actual fighting starts or the recruit appears. I dont understand what the problem might be, is it something with the connection and sending packets? MY computer is not slow at all.
upd - windows 7 , steam version, plenty of memory and CPU processing power

1. The game is experiencing massive frame issues. I've tried disabling unit animations, map animations, idle animations, everything, but attacking is always incredibly framey and moving around the map when there are more then three players is very jerky and slow. Moving my cursor over tiles, it takes the game at least two seconds to register I've moved my cursor/tried to move a unit there. This is happening to myself and three of my friends who I have tried playing with, one of whom has two quad-core processors.Sapient wrote: ↑July 20th, 2006, 8:50 pm Are you a wesnoth user who is experiencing extreme slowdown or extreme performance-related issues on your system? The more details you give the better.
1) Problem Details -
First, tell what is taking so long and how long it takes. The more precisely you can time it, the better. If you can find a situation where the slowdown or save-times become extremely slow, attach a save file here with your post. Wesnoth's log can also provide valuable details on potential problems. The logs can be found as described here.
2) System Details -
At the minimum, you should give your Operating System, Wesnoth Version, RAM, (Graphics cards are irrelevant), CPU, and network type (broadband DSL/dial-up/t1); and, if you compiled Wesnoth yourself, the compiler version and compile flags used.
3) Performance Metrics -
Additionally, you can measure the CPU and memory usage of the wesnoth process. On Macs this can be done with the Activity Monitor. Windows users can press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up the Task Manager. Include with your report how high the statistic (CPU/memory) gets and how long it stays at that peak level.
2. I am running Windows 10 64-bit, Wesnoth 1.14 (Steam release), 8.00 GB RAM, AMD A10-8700P Radeon R6, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G 1.80 GHz. I am using an ethernet broadband DSL. I did not compile Wesnoth myself, I downloaded the version uploaded to Steam.
3. Wesnoth capped at 64.57% of my CPU during a 6-player multiplayer match (stayed for twenty minutes), and averages around using 52% of my total CPU (more than Rainbow Six Siege or ARK: Survival Evolved) and consumes much less of my memory, averaging around 20% of my memory total.
Re: SLOW Performance Issues: post here to report
I've reported this before, but my Wesnoth (1.14.1) crashes from reaching the Windows 10 32-bit limit of 2gb, and right up until it reaches that point it slows down considerable until exiting.
I've heard that Mac and Linux both are 64-bit and I would be so extremely greatful to be able to have the full memory of my system available to use for Wesnoth (24gb). Any word on brave and divine devs willing to bring Windows Wesnoth up to 64 bit?

Re: SLOW Performance Issues: post here to report
The multiplayer lobby is freezing up like crazy for me. It's extremely annoying. First with my integrated GPU, now the same thing happens with a Nvidia 960 gtx (no, i didn't buy one to fix it)... In-game everything works fine. The lobby freezes up and if i alt-tab and try to come back after some time, it doesn't even refresh...
My system is a Ubuntu based Bodhi Linux 64-bit. Currently using 1.14.1 installed via flatpak, but this happened before on both the steam and a manually compiled 1.14 versions.

Everytime I try to get in multiplayer lobby (which takes a while) I get this error. I remove and add addons all the time, but "Macro/file 'BITEBIG_AGE_SOUND' is missing" always shows up.The following add-ons had errors and could not be loaded:
• C:\Users\USER\Desktop\PortableApps\WesnothPortable\Data\settings/data/add-ons/Royal_Rumble_Updated/_main.cfg
• C:\Users\USER\Desktop\PortableApps\WesnothPortable\Data\settings/data/add-ons/age/_main.cfg

Like the error message says, you should report it to the add-on maintainer. When you view the add-on description it has a link to the relevant thread. I posted your error in that thread.
Here it is:

This isn't an issue with the royal rumble addon, I could easily remove that addon, yet still receive this error.
My main issue is the cache slowdown, which is a performance issue that has nothing to do with the addon developers. It should not take 3-5 minutes to join the multiplayer lobby. The following add-on had errors and could not be loaded:

I suggest you manually remove the folder at:
Also, as far as I am aware, Wesnoth has never been supported on PortableApps, so you should report this problem to whoever uploaded it there.

I noticed that the scrolling on the names of online players is very bad (the ones on the side in the lobby), its slow and jerky, especially if i visualize all the open games, sometime it even freezes for some time and I can't do anything till it unfreezes.

Re: SLOW Performance Issues: post here to report
Just upgraded Ubuntu 18.04 to 18.10 and got Wesnoth 1.14 in the process.
It's become incredibly slow. Tried tuning display options down, reduced resolution fro 2500x1400 to 800x600, still very slow.
Even the yellow hexagon cannot keep up with the cursor. It takes it several seconds to catch up with the cursor after I moved it half way across the screen.
Core i7-4770K, 32 GB ram, GTX960 with nouveau driver, SSD + storage on HD
1.12 was very responsive with all animations on at 2500x1400 resolution

Re: SLOW Performance Issues: post here to report
I'd suggest turning off water animations and see if that helps. You can also try this.
Otherwise, I'd suggest getting a more up to date version via ppa(current is 1.14.5, 1 2) or flatpak, or try using the nvidia blob driver.

Similar to other posters, Just updated to 1.14 from 1.12
incredibly poor performance, tried disabling map animations and setting OMP_WAIT_POLICY to passive. but still very laggy in attack animations, 1.12 was great.

when I have to pick between the legendary individuals and the escapees. The autosaves start taking even more then ten seconds to save and in addition the stacking. The proportion of the sutosaves increase noticably beginning with one turn then onto the following also.
