BUG: invisible Elvish Horse Archer in HttT

There is conflicting evidence as to whether the Elvish Horse Archer is supposed to be available in HTTT.

1. The AI uses them (scenario where you have to cross a battlefield to reach the elven forest.)

2. The config file for Elvish Scout points to EHA/EHR and thus allows you to promote to this.

3. There are no graphics for EHA in the .../wesnoth/data/images folder

4. Grumpy guys down in Faction & Era Development say the unit isn't supposed to be there.

So it LOOKS like this was added while they weren't looking and then someone forgot to put in the files.

What do you do if you have invisible units? In my case the unit portrait and graphics files were not in the main folder or the campaign. I solved this by downloading the graphics for this unit and putting them in the folder with the rest of the graphics.

Installation Info:
SuSE 10.1, BfW 1.0.2, All campaigns from distro were loaded

Either you or your distributions packager have modified some files then. There is no Horse Archer in the official release.

That was the right way to go about it then. Invisible units usually suggest that there is something wrong with accessing the graphics for that unit. How to solve that problem of course depends on why the game can't access the graphics (wrong path, missing files, etc.).

Well, first of all, there aren't any "elvish horse archers" in the game (in 1.0.2 nor in any recent version), in HttT or otherwise, as Soliton pointed out.

I don't remember what exactly the post I deleted was like, since it was several days ago, but my reasons for deleting it must have been these nonexisting elvish horse archers and resurrecting the thread for that.

I looked in the tarball for the default game. No horse archers.

One of the campaigns must have modified the Elvish_Scout.cfg file to allow the Elvish Horse Archer.

So, please explain to me how it is that the HttT campaign USES elvish horse archers in the "Home of the North Elves" scenario.

No idea, really.

Something similar to http://gna.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=6138 (read the comments) might be worth checking though (not sure how likely it would be that these are related).

In any case, btw, you should use the latest dev releases (1.1.11 now) instead of 1.0.2. They should be better in all regards, 1.0.2 is rather obsolete (and inferior, if you'd ask me) in comparison.

trouble w/ 1.1.11

I tried to take your advice. Uninstalled 1.0.2 and I'm trying to install 1.1.11.

TONS of difficulties getting ./configure to recognize the latest versions of all the SDL headers. I'm searching in the installation forum to find it.

I tried to get a suse RPM from a packager, but had no luck.

I'm still a relative noob when it comes to Linux. This is the first thing I'm trying to compile.

Elvish horse archers come from a user campaign, i don't remeber which one.
The problem is this campaign pollute other campaign an MP with this unit, because #ifdef are not properly used to prevent the custom unit to be availaible outside of the campaign.
