Old Posting Guidelines

Post by Dave »

Since the forum is growing I think it is necessary to establish some basic posting guidelines:

- Be polite and courteous to other users of the forum. Children have access to these forums, keep that in mind.
- Do not use profanities. Do not make irreverent references to Deity.
- Do not hi-jack threads. If something interesting comes up in a thread, start a new thread to discuss it.
- Do not make excessive use of capitals.
- Post on the topic of the forum you are posting in. Off-topic posts should go in the 'off topic' section. Even in off-topic please do not make useless/spammy posts.

The "forum restructuring" announcement is now outdated, but the information still applies. It is now merged with this thread.

The forums primarily exist to support development of the game. After that, they exist to be a place for the user community to discuss the game.

It has been the case in the past that the second purpose started to detract from game development, so we announced some changes that we think enhance the primary purpose of the forum. It allows users and potential contributors to get closer to the project while keeping the forums a productive place for more serious game development.

The development section of the forum will be restricted to actual developers and forum users who are granted specific access. To be granted access, a user should show that he or she is mature, productive, and consistently constructive. Asking for dev forum access is, as usual, the worst way to get access as this will never work.

The ideas forum is very closely watched. The forum itself occasionally produces a good idea, but the vast majority of them are repeats or at cross purposes with where we want to take the game. We hope this will reduce the overall noise level of the ideas forum and increase the percentage of useable ideas posted there.

We are appreciative of the user community, since most of the dev team started out as part of it. We want to make sure we support our community but not at the expense of the game itself. Please work with us to make this scheme successful.

Thanks,
The BFW developer team
Additionally:

We are using user groups to control who can post in the developer-only section. "Forum regulars" can post in this section.

If you want to be a forum regular, make meaningful, insightful, constructive, and mature posts and/or contributions. If you ARE a forum regular, you can nominate anyone to be in the group by sending me a private message.

Regardless of which group you're in, welcome to the board, speak your mind, and we hope you enjoy the game.

Finally, only members of the groups "Code and WML Contributors" and "Art Contributors" can post in the restricted Art Development forum.
Hope springs eternal.
