Am I the only one whose eyeballs want to explode looking at that? It's well done, but I find it very hard on the eyes. Maybe once it's overlaid with some 'dirt' and granularity...

No tought on its defense I can assure I saw worse than that.

Its not that bad either, tought it seems a texture for small parchments of terrain and not full hexes (something like reads, etc...)

would look nice with a big fountain in the center of a circle of those and the rest grass

I've been also thinking about alternative villages that would be better suited for cities (made by bundling villages together and surrounding it with castle walls).

This is made from a 3-D model, and obviously it would need some handwork for proper shadows and the "drawn" look:

I like the look of it, particularly the facades, but i'm not sure it fits into wesnoth's historical period - it looks more victorian to me.

The style probably leans toward lated Middle Age, something like this from the medieval town of Rotenburg-ob-der-Tauber:

I have other designs on the way, hopefully more archetypically "medieval."

Remember, the Middle Ages spanned over about 1000 years, there is quite a lot of room for different building styles and technologies there.

Mm, yeah. I think Britain and the continent probably had fairly radically different architectural styles at the time, too.

Yes, and what also colours our perception is that there already exists a rather fixed "fantasy style" which only includes a limited array of medieval stylistic components, the artists copying each other instead of finding fresh sources. Personally, I'd rather try to break that mold and find my inspiration from wider area (I'm also planning a custom rural village tiles, based on slavic wooden architecture).

That sounds like fun =D

I'd go more gothic, myself, tbh, but that's personal choice.

Nothing wrong with the house I could really imagine a bigger village with those.

That style i like =D

Fits my view of wesnoth perfectly. It's maybe a bit too tall, though, particularly the lower storey. One thing i KNOW about hoses built in the sort of time period wesnoth is set in, particularly in that sort of style, is they have VERY low ceilings. I lived until uni in a 13th century farm cottage. I lost more braincells to the beams than to anything else in my life...

Looks awesome, if the transitions look good too I can definitely use it. 8)
