Wesnoth 1.2.2

Postby ivanovic » February 21st, 2007, 9:33 pm

Wesnoth 1.2.2 is out!

This is a bugfix release for 1.2 and it is compatible with the other 1.2 versions. Since savegames were optimised to use less space, mid-scenario saves from all versions before 1.2.2 will probably not work as expected (the recall list is broken). The start of scenario saves will work normally.

1.2.2 has several important bug fixes included. Some spelling mistakes were fixed and many translations updated. The most important changes in this version are not the new and updated graphics for several units but the huge performance improvements maxy did manage to implement. Now the mp-lobby and many other places should be notably faster. Replays should work as expected again. Of course there were quite many other changes, too.

You can check details at the changelog.

Downloads:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesnoth/wesnoth-1.2.2.tar.bz2?download (64.7MB) md5sum

The XDelta for the sources is ready, too:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnoth/wesnoth-1.2.1.tar-1.2.2.tar.xdelta?download (3.1MB)

Check http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7034 for info on using xdelta.

The Windows binary is not ready yet, but the packager has been notified.

But the Mac users out there are lucky: The MacOSX binary is ready! Please keep in mind that OSX 10.3+ is required:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnoth/Wesnoth_MacOSX_1.2.2.dmg?download (full version, 78.9MB)
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnoth/Wesnoth_MacOSX_1.2.2_lite.dmg?download (lite version (no artwork and music), 47.1MB)

The gentoo binaries are already available via emerge, the openbsd binary is already available at sf.net, the OpenSUSE binary can be found here and the debian package was created and uploaded, too (no idea when and where it will be available).

All the other packager have already been notified (are there any?), the binaries might be ready soon.

As a fallback you can also get the sources from http://files.wesnoth.org/ - you should first try to get files through SourceForge to help us save bandwidth.

server.wesnoth.org is ready to be used for multiplayer games.

If you have any problems, follow the instructions given in this thread before reporting it as a bug. Instructions for bug reporting can be found at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs

Enjoy!

If I'm supposed to fight creeping biggerism, then why is it a game feature?

Sweet, going to grab it now. :D

Edit: Having now compiled and played a little, I must say that the performance enhancements are quite noticeable, especially when scrolling across the map which is much smoother and faster now. Excellent!

It doesn't look like you fixed that missing sound bug though. :(
What's this annoying thing that appears at the bottom of every one of my posts?

Which "missing sound bug"? Some more details like a number in the bugtracker might be helpfull. Sometimes bugs are fixed even though it is not listed...
Where was that bug reported? Was it reported at all?

Impressive changelog. I can't even imagine how good 1.3 is going to be!

From here.

I was just playing 1.2.2 and I didn't notice it. I guess it wasn't in the changelog.

Bugs on the forum get lost and forgotten pretty quickly, could you post a report on http://bugs.wesnoth.org? (The report body can just be a link to the forum thread.)

I'm confused about the savegame thing. Does this mean that
a) all games played with the current version should show no problem with savegames/replays
b)on previous 1.2 versions you will get a non-corrupt replay
except if you have saved your game somewhere during the
scenario in question?

If you try to load an autosave or manual save from 1.2 or 1.2.1 recall will usually not work. You've got use start of scenario saves from those versions in 1.2.2. Should probably hold true also the other way round but I'm not sure wheter 1.2.2 saves work at all in previous versions. They contain a lot less of not really required information.

AFAIK there should be no problems, only the recall list was affected.

New terrain will only be in 1.3.x as 1.2.x doesn't have free letters for more terrain. 1.3 has a new terrain engine supporting more variants.
