Re: Are Programers inherently better game designers?
As a progammer, I would expect most programmers to be lousy game designers. Don't confuse game design with program design or implementation.

Re: [POLL] What Operating Systems do you use Wesnoth on?
How? It will only capture data on those who play MP and completely miss those of us who SP only.

Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?
Not looking for canibalism since, to me, the question is does one humanoid species (Homo Orcus?) eat another (Homo Sapiens). Archeological evidence shows another (Homo Neandertalis) certainly did. So it seems logical to conclude other human species do as well. And Orcs and Humans interbreed to make ...

Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?
"just another species" of humanoid (species homo).
How "obviously not true"? Perhaps I mistated it? Meat is more efficient and is required to support the larger, intelligent brain. Cooking increaes efficiency. We're talking about the species, not individuals.

Re: Packaging changes for 1.14.10 and 1.15.3
In my experience, there is no way to ensure all packagers get notified _and_pay_attention_. I'm in the "make it a build error" camp. Sure, that means everyone, not just packagers, have a new step, but the other choice is to set a default. Setting a default means it'll never be changed. Whi...

Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?
I think research indicates that the calories needed to support a large brain pretty much necessitate the consumption of cooked meat. Otherwise the time spent eating would not allow sufficient time for hunting and sleeping. I view Orcs more as akin to homo neanderthalensis so their diet is probably 8...

Re: A question for developers, do we matter ?
Most changes of the sort discussed in that thread are best checked using UMC to see what the effect actually is. Players may love the idea of a unit, but how it actually works, especially when competing against an experienced opponent, can only be determined by actual game play. And that was suggest...

Re: Reworking/Revising The Sceptre of Fire
Going a litte off-topic here ... Seems to me like we might consider a number of different riders with different advantages and disadvantages. Griffin riders move fast and far. I'd suggest they should, however, have difficulty with forested terrain for attack and defense. Bear riders sound like a goo...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
The name doesn't really matter to me but I can see how some might attach meaning which isn't what was intended. I was thinking something along these lines, myself. Not demons. But about what the story arc could be. If we look at stories we often find a comentary upon society. The Lord of the Rings, ...

Re: Unit Names
@Pagawan "We're not going to be renaming ..." should not be taken as a hard and fast prohibition but an example of the resistance. We just went through a major renaming for the Dunefolk. It took a long time for it to come about and we're still dealing with the aftermath. There might be cas...

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)
My feelings closely mirror those of nemaara, although I didn't go into near the length to explain them. I would add one more point: 4. Mainline should be considered an example of "how to do it" when it comes to writing your own UMC. No matter how well written the documentation is, the best...

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)
On point 3: I don't see a problem with tutorials on specific approaches or strategies. In fact, these could be quite handy. But they need to be clearly marked as such, and either require or strongly recommend prior completion of more basic tuturials. I suppose if pressed to make a choice, I'd lean t...
