Re: Ancient Mediterranean-Themed Units

I'm working on expanding the color palettes i use to add more depth and texture to my sprites. For now I'm drawing heavy influence from Jetrel's work and stumbling through it by trial and error, seeing the effect the different colors have on each other as I go. It's a learning process and it puts me...

Re: Pixel Art Tutorial Snippets

This is the number one thing I am working to improve myself at the moment and is, in my opinion, one of the most important things you can learn to make "good" work into "amazing!" work. Stepping through lighter and darker shades of the same hue (forgive me if I'm misusing terms) can indicate depth a...

Re: Dixie's Internet Meme Era Art Thread

Regarding the samurai, you can keep the same shape on the shaft but make it seem a little thinner by darkening the underside a bit. I think the version with the sword offers a much better balance to the image and I prefer that one.

Re: Ancient Mediterranean-Themed Units

Halfway through the rework of the Hypaspites posted earlier in the thread. It's perhaps the first time reworking one of my older sprites has resulted in a smaller unit than the original. I'll edit in some updates after a nice long nap. unit.PNG Edit: Alternate version not suitable for the bas...

Re: Ancient Mediterranean-Themed Units

Magos: the other level 2 option for the Mystikos. Not entirely satisfied with the overall design yet, as I need to add some additional embellishments or something to enhance the Occult & Cult feels. The magic they dabble in (manipulation of spirits & the spirit world) brings them closer and closer t...

I very much like the shield on this one and will probably use it as uhm... "inspiration" :)

Roger. Noticed it wasn't applied to the tweaked stuff Sleepwalker had posted, so thought I'd bring it to his attention.

Re: Ancient Mediterranean-Themed Units

I had intended to let this thread die and start a fresh one if I got most of the units done (or postable anyway), however other things have had my interest and I have not made the progress I had hoped to. However, I have been quietly working on the faction from time to time over the past months so I...

Re: Khalifate facelift: final tweaks in progress

Just in-case this got lost of forgotten several pages back, I'll bring it up one more time. It's a very small tweak, and though i never saw issues with the horse snouts before, since making my own horse sprite and tweaking the standard horse head, the dot nose really jumps out at me now every time i...

Re: Standing and idle animations?

Updated preview of animation. This time, the .gif file displays the colors exactly as they appear in the .png files. I have no idea why they were so washed-out before. Idk if the chest/stomach motion works or not; To me it seems plausible, but my judgement is clouded by knowing what I intend to port...

Re: Standing and idle animations?

Shaded WIP of Javelineer standing animation. The .gif conversion is massively breaking the shading on this guy and It's making it very hard for me to judge the blending. I suspect I'm going to have to rig it up to actually show in-game to get any sort of idea how it will actually look to finish and ...

Re: Standing and idle animations?

An initial blocking attempt for a merman javelineer standing animation. Two versions, one with shaded base and one with blocked base frame. The blocked base frame looks quite jumpy at it's transition back to base, but to be honest, my initial blocking of the base frame was rather shody so keep that ...

Re: Vranca´s sprites

It needs a little more work on showing how and where it intersects the top of the helmet, but I, for one, really like the design. A few small changes to the way the crest sits might make it look a little better too, so that it's more clear the angle... this is difficult to explain... maybe just a li...

Re: Vranca´s sprites

The head is very short and squished. It looks like it probably needs expanded by a pixel in each direction, moving the whole thing up one pixel and working in an extra two as you go down, preferably in the bottom part as the top of the helmet looks good, just needs more room for the face. The visibl...
