Re: WF - Wild Frontiers [SP Campaign]

Hello! Really enjoying the campaign so far; thank you so much for all of your work. Some of my favorite parts are: (1) caravans -- really well done; it's innovative and fun and works well (2) diplomatic quests -- fun, gives lots of options, helps you think about what kind of kingdom you're building ...

What traits do levelled up units automatically inherit?

When I'm writing custom unit files, what traits can I rely on them to automatically inherit from lower-level units? E.g. suppose I have a Level 1 "Frog" that advances to a Level 2 "Battletoad." I add WML to the Frog unit file to make it lawful, give it the skirmisher ability, give it weakness to col...

Re: How to enjoy hard campaigns when they go wrong

Based on your OP I think you need more playing skill. If you lose a unit to "bad RNG" its usually due to a combination of bad play and bad RNG. If you dont face this (the bad play part) truthfully and dont enjoy improving your playing skill you probably will just get frustrated or something. I'm re...

Re: How to enjoy hard campaigns when they go wrong

All right; thank you, that was a very interesting replay. I think the two biggest things you did differently than me were (1) recruit multiple Elvish Shamans to slow down enemies before charging into them with Horsemen/Knights, and (2) send virtually all of the merfolk to the far west edge of the ma...

Re: How to enjoy hard campaigns when they go wrong

All right, thank you everyone; there's some good advice in there; I'll try it, and I'll let you know how it goes. It might be that I just don't enjoy the problems posed on hard difficulty very much -- if a major point of the hard difficulty is to challenge the player to expertly manage their gold re...

How to force AI with no leader to play defensively

I'm designing a multiplayer scenario, and it includes some neutral monsters. I would like the monsters to stay near their points of origin, attack anyone who wanders too close to their start point, and perhaps occupy the occasional nearby village. Instead, the monsters all immediately charge toward ...

Re: Galactic Empires (MP Sci-fi Scenario)

Hi Bob_the_Mighty! Great to hear from you; I'm really glad you're still around and interested. :) I think making colonisation consume a unit would be a good start and a big step in the right direction. Another useful tweak would be to make Transports slower and Scout ships faster. Finally, you might...

How to enjoy hard campaigns when they go wrong

So I've beaten all of the mainline campaigns on the normal difficulty mode, and I'm playing through them again on hard mode. I'm up to Heir to the Throne, and I'm getting stuck, and I'm NOT looking for 'walkthrough' style advice. Instead I'm looking for philosophical advice on how to enjoy some of t...

Re: Galactic Empires (MP Sci-fi Scenario)

I realize I'm late to the party here, but I wanted to submit a review of this gorgeous era. Graphics: 5 stars. The individual planet views look like science-fiction planets, the galactic map is eerie and vast, the ships have that slightly cartoonish style you think of for Wesnoth but still look like...

Re: Create a new Era just to add a few old units?

Perfect, thank you! I had forgotten about the unique ID requirement, so I'm glad you reminded me.

What does it mean to add a unit "directly" from another add-on? Is that different from copying its .cfg file and art into my add-on's subdirectory?

Re: Loyalists vs Northerners --- Mass Spearmen? Really?

I've been buying about 20% Spearmen as expendable cannon fodder to screen Mages and Horsemen from enemy attacks. Even a Level 2 Mage at full HP can be killed in one round by a trio of Grunts at night, but they're too valuable to leave idle for half the game -- so I'll make a ranged attack on a Troll...

Re: Create a new Era just to add a few old units?

Thank you very much; that sounds much more reasonable!

What do I do about images, sounds, etc. for units that I'm borrowing from another Era? Do they just go in userdata/data/add-ons/Gauntlet/images, and do I need to put anything in _main.cfg to tell the scenario about them?
