Re: Do you save and reload? If so, why?

Thanks for this reference, Crendgrim. It's the first time I've seen it; it should cut down on the questions I ask. I just acquainted myself with the site map, which should also should help. I've been relying on the links at the top of the pages to find my way around, but there are a lot of resources...

I really ought to have known that.

Re: Do you save and reload? If so, why?

Thanks, perseo, for RNG. Re your grasshoppered level 4 mage and your undamaged footpad: I would like to become more able to appreciate and remember the times when my luck was extremely good, and to invoke those memories when things look bleak. I do often notice the spectacular successes, but the not...

Re: Do you save and reload? If so, why?

What is RNG (heaven/hell)? Whether one reloads is being treated as quite the ethical and aesthetic issue! I can relate to the pleasantly pure feeling that comes from holding oneself to standards, but refraining from reloading is one of those standards that affect no one but the one making the choice...

Re: I'd like more onscreen notification of what's happening

Thanks, JaMiT. I'm not a developer, and I often forget obvious things like screens looking different for different users. There's nothing like ignorance to make things look easy! And I would indeed be frustrated by the program crashing. I'm very pleased to be using the 1.10! Thanks for filling me in.

Re: Scenario 6: The Siege of Elensefar

letsdance, I'm intrigued by your idea of waiting in the woods for the orcs. At all three levels, I've taken the bait offered by the name of the scenario, and run for the city, with varying tactics such as making the orcs enter the water, or trying to beat them into the two ruined castle hexes on the...

Re: I'd like more onscreen notification of what's happening

I'm using bfw 1.10; apparently it's the latest available for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Thanks, Chief_Chasso and Pauloma14, for the news about the newer releases. I'll look forward to the enhanced functionality; I'm sure it'll reach me eventually. It does sound like a step in the right direction. I just wish...

I'd like more onscreen notification of what's happening

Hello, all. There are bits of information that I wish were available during play that I don't think currently are, and some that are available, such as scenario name and objective, that I wish were a constant part of the screen environment. If there were no screen space unused, I wouldn't be making ...

Re: Ye Compleat Walkthrough To "Heir To The Throne"

Thanks, you three. I took in all you said, and I have made progress, beetlenaut, on my hang-up. :) You're right; it definitely was time. I'd thought if I stalled long enough, I'd eventually come to it, and I did. It'll take me some more time to really own all the points you all made, but I did manag...

Re: Ye Compleat Walkthrough To "Heir To The Throne"

I have played HttT up to Test of the Clan, but I seem unable to succeed there. I'm playing normal level. I'm guessing that one of my problems is a strong distaste for sacrificing units; I'm new to gaming, and haven't built up what it takes to trust that losing units is okay. I know I'll have to get ...

Re: Why is a lawful 15-3 unit taking 18 per strike at dusk?

Thanks, lipk and trewe; what you say makes sense. New to gaming in general, I'm still awfully hazy on the finer points of BfW; your help takes me another step toward steering my way through it with understanding, rather than careening my way through it with ignorance. There's a lot to keep in mind! ...

Why is a lawful 15-3 unit taking 18 per strike at dusk?

I'm playing Heir to the Throne, Normal level, Return to Wesnoth scenario. I've defeated one of three enemy leaders, and am approaching the river from the north. On my half of turn 10, at dusk, Lisar has just reached Level 3, and she's on the sand on the north bank of the river, 40% defense, with (ha...

Re: WHAT TO DO if you can't beat a scenario in a campaign:

Thanks, pauxlo. I get it, and I'm relieved: If it had gone the other way, I'd have been confused indeed. I thought it must be the case that the player couldn't accumulate additional units by replaying scenarios, but that wasn't entirely clear to me from the previous posts. I can proceed with confide...

Re: Whether to attack with lawful units when adjacent at nig

Thanks to everyone who's posted. I really appreciate the variety of points you all raised. I knew the question wouldn't be simple, but y'all have done a great job of addressing the different factors in ways I can understand. I am quite new to BfW -- and it's my first RPG ever -- and I'm learning ski...
