I think there is a simpler way to do this but... here we go:

Spoiler:
Well yeah, that would technically be the answer assuming that you can ask that in only one question.

Okay: (this you can probably find by googling it, but its not to hard so try to figure it out yourself :) ) 8)

You and nine other individuals have been captured by a strange race from the remote southern reaches of Wesnoth. The creatures think you and your 9 friends look quite tasty, but their civilization forbids eating highly logical and cooperative beings. Unfortunately, they’re not sure whether you qualify, so they decide to give you all a test.

They tell you, you will be lined up according to height (so each person can see everyone in front of them). Then you will each be given a black or white box placed upon your head, randomly distributed (the number and position of the boxes is entirely random, there could be 10 white boxes, or 5 white 5 black, or white, black, black, white, white, etc.).

The challenge is, starting from the tallest each of you 10 people will say one word, "black" or "white" and at least 9 of you must guess correctly the boxes on your heads.

You all have a minute to consult and there is a foolproof way of ensuring at least 9 of you guess correctly. Otherwise you get eaten.

Ok, this method might be a cheat, but the specifications didn't tell that the words "black" and "white" had to be pronounced in a specific way. So we make it that the way we pronounce the colour of our box makes it clear to the next one which colour they have. If the next person has a white box, we say "blackck" or "whittte", but if the next person has a black box, we say "blaaaaack" or "whiiiiite". Like this, everyone (except the tallest) knows what box they have by listening to how the person behind them (speaking directly before them) says the colour of their box, and has a way to both tell the colour of their own box to the capturers and the colour of the box of the next person to the next person.

Does that work?

The solution I know for this is encoding the next box info with "black, white, black box, white box" (except I know the riddle told with hats, but its the same), that way you don't have to twist the pronunciation. ;)

Hmmm... I read the part "each of you 10 people will say one word" as "each of you must say exactly one word and under no circumstances two words", but I'm probably overanalysing and splitting hairs there.
