Wesnoth 1.14.13

Post by Iris »

Wesnoth 1.14.13 is out!

This is a regular maintenance release for the stable 1.14.x series, delivering bug fixes and translation updates. As is the norm for updates to the current stable series, this release is fully compatible with previous 1.14.x versions.

It is worth noting that this time around there are fixes included for two major long-standing issues affecting all Wesnoth players in either singleplayer or multiplayer mode, with effects varying from the innocuous to the game-breaking depending on the game content being played as well as the system configuration.

A full list of changes and new features added since version 1.12 can be found in the release notes for this series.

Changes in this release

Read on for more details about the most notable fixes and additions since the previous stable release. A full list of changes may be found in our changelog.
General
An issue dating back to version 1.13.13 was found in the game’s graphics engine that would result in large memory leaks over time, particularly evident after performing a few save-reloading or game initialization (Campaign mode, Multiplayer, Map Editor) cycles. On Windows and other systems running 32-bit builds of the game, this could eventually result in a game session crashing due to reaching platform-mandated memory limits. Furthermore, either 32-bit or 64-bit systems with small amounts of available RAM could perceive substantial performance degradation during long game sessions, or even crashes in other running software.
An issue with the WML event handling code was found which caused the event location variables x1 and y1 to change unexpectedly in the middle of handler execution when the player right-clicked on map locations. This could cause all kinds of bugs including OOS errors and unexpected behavior in both single and multi-player modes.

The South Guard
  • S6b: Fixed enemy units triggering their own ambush events.
  • Include graphics settings and the list of installed add-ons in the Game Version dialog’s clipboard report and the command line --report output.
  • FIxed build errors with Boost 1.73 and later.
Known Issues
General issues:
  • OneDrive can interfere with Wesnoth’s user config/data directory set-up, leading to all kinds of different manifestations of the issue. There’s no fix available yet. The recommendation for the time being is to avoid syncing the Wesnoth user directory with OneDrive.
General issues:
  • Preprocessor errors corrupt cache (issue #1924). If this happens you have to wipe your cache. That can be done in Preferences → Cache.
If you find any bugs, do not hesitate to report them, but please read the instructions on how to report bugs first! As bug reports in the forums tend to be forgotten, you will get better results using our bug tracker. We require your help for finding and fixing issues, no matter how obvious, trivial, or complicated they seem!

Have fun!

The memory leak thing probably happened to me. I always thought it's because of the computer starting to get hot which made it start becoming sluggish and, slow, and laggy after a while. Thanks team for finding time out of your day to work on wesnoth.
