Increasing game UI text size

Post by Simons Mith »

A new player just had a look at the game after a 10-yr gap since he last played it. First comment:

"Ok, I have wesnoth up and running. One problem I can see immediately is the readability. My eyes aren't what they were 10 years ago."

So how do you bump up the text size globally? I always assumed there was a way, and I'll be honest I'm getting close to needing it myself.
Some of the campaign story text in italics was just below what's comfortable...

If you're running Wesnoth 1.15, you can manually edit your preferences file and add this line:

Code: Select all

font_scale=150
Note that this feature is somewhat buggy.

Thank you, I'll pass that on.
And, I suppose, put in a 'UI refinement' feature request. I'll just pop it in the Ideas forum - not inclined to muck about with Github right now

There used to be an actual control for this in the preferences dialog box, but it was removed just before version 1.14 was released (because of bugs in the feature).

Oh well. I bet it'll come back when more of the devs start needing it too :-)

Looking at the join dates for many of the active contributors here, I see a lot of them go back quite a long way
