Server issues 1.15.x, 1.14.15, & 1.12.6 - [servers cut connection]
Hi and hello there,
besides the 'Wererwolves of London' sneaking round my cabin, there's this Wesnoth issue occurring since a few days. I cannot manage to get my Wesnoth game installs [1.15.8, 1.15.10, 1.14.15, 1.12.6] connect with the multi player servers nor the add-on-repository servers. Checked the website saying all servers were up. And a few days ago all went smooth. Now I upgraded to 1.15.10, still same issue here.
So what is this? Can some one help me please mitigate and solve this issue, please?
Greetings, chol

Re: Server issues 1.15.x, 1.14.15, & 1.12.6 - [servers cut connection]
The .so is a shared library file that provides functionality that Wesnoth depends on. So it's saying that the version of the Boost iostreams library it expects (1.65.1) doesn't exist. Are you compiling these versions yourself?

Re: Server issues 1.15.x, 1.14.15, & 1.12.6 - [servers cut connection]
Yes I am compiling them.
However, I had a functioning 1.15.8 install as of 08 march 2021 .
Servers have handshakenly asked for connection but after some seconds the game gives a server error message back.
This happens on 1.12.6 and 1.14.15 installs also (self compiled as well) and with my generic Ubuntu install of 1.14.9 it also shows the error message (yes I have 4 installs in parallel: 1.12.6, 1.14.9, 1.14.15, 1.15.10). This error appears when I try to access the multi-player- or the add-on-server.
Yesterday I compiled and installed the newest 1.15.10 version but got the similar error message still. For I thought it might be that the 1.15.8 wasn't supported any more.
My system has the libboost-iostreams.1.71.0 properly installed. And game functions well.
I get the following inter-locale error message in game after some 10 sec first:
Fehler
Verbindung fehlgeschlagen: Network is unreachable
(engl. "Error
Connection failed: Network is unreachable")
After this further server error messages state: "Der Server hat die Verbindung unterbrochen. (engl. "The server interrupted the connection. ")
Yes, my locale is DE-de, and I changed it recently. Will set it back to EN-en again.

If you can't connect to the add-on server, you could try running the
data/tools/wesnoth_addon_manager
script and see whether that works. When I run it, it looks like this:
Code: Select all
$ ./data/tools/wesnoth_addon_manager --list
Opening socket to add-ons.wesnoth.org:15015 for 1.15.x
Connected as 42.
Receiving 294648 bytes.

add-ons.wesnoth.org:15015
for the add-ons server. If I click Multiplayer > Connect to Server
"server.wesnoth.org"
, "server.wesnoth.org:15015"

, or "server.wesnoth.org:14999"
the same error messages as explained above still will be presented.

Re: Server issues 1.15.x, 1.14.15, & 1.12.6 - [servers cut connection]
So you can only connect to wesnoth.org as root?

Re: Server issues 1.15.x, 1.14.15, & 1.12.6 - [servers cut connection]
No.
sudo
was used in cotext to the program called "nping
". roor privileges are required for part of this prgs services (mode TCP).As you can see: root-less
ping
to wesnoth.org still functions. wesnoth.org is "up".It happens to be that my (root-less) wesnoth client cannot connect to wesnoth 1.15.x servers since a few days ago.
I would suspect login credential issues or server setting issues.

If you were having login credential issues then you wouldn't be able to log into the forums either. I'm also able to log into the 1.15 and 1.14 MP servers without issue, so it may be an ISP or firewall issue on your side as well.

Re: Server issues 1.15.x, 1.14.15, & 1.12.6 - [servers cut connection]
Well, from the output you've shown only nping run as root can send and receive to/from wesnoth.org:15015. "Connection refused" means no connection is established at all so any kind of login credential issues are ruled out. Infact "Connection refused" very likely means there is a firewall somewhere between you and wesnoth.org that blocks at least this port because the other option is that nothing is listening on this port and that is simply not true.
The last entries of your IP in the addon or mp server logs are from a month ago. The only thing current is in the webserver logs.
What happens when using tcp connect mode with nping?

It's a router-issue. I switched routers and 1 seems to have a blocking effect. I will see through this problem soon.
