Animation in the Docs

Post by hunterkillr »

On the docs, in the units display, I guess it would really look cool, if the unit model over there animates randomly. E.g. Orcish Archers shoot arrow, shoots flaming arrows, gets hit, dies, attacks, etc. all in the documentation. Oh! The satisfaction it'll give. I know it's vain, and hard to code(animation in Wesnoth docs? that's new), but cool, still. ;D

Interesting idea, but why?

post a feature request on https://gna.org/bugs/?group=wesnoth so that the request is not lost by the developers.

Personally I think this is an excellent idea.

Well once two major developers have given positive opinions this hardly seems worth posting...
But for what it's worth I think this would just prove irritiating to anyone trying to read up on unit stats/resistances or something, much the same way that animated forum avatars are an eyesore. :?

Well, if you guys implement it, could you please make it so that we can turn it off?

I can't figure out if it would irritate me, infuriate me, or look cool.
We really need a shrugging smilie.
Oh no look out its a ray gun.
You should move to avoid the rays
the rays are coming out of the gun
if you are hit by the rays
you will be shot by the rays
the rays are fast so you should be fast to
can you win against the fast rays from the gun?

If it would infuriate unsung, then we must make it our top priority!

Animated avatars are bad, and animated icons of units are bad. I vote no.

It's hard to animate what a shrug looks like with just a face.
Sorry for the meaningless post

How do you expect the user to read the documentation if animations keep distracting their eyes away from the words? This idea is *almost* as bad as the idea of looping animations on web pages.

and most other negative comments.

You are all somewhat right. Perhaps, this looks better if it was hidden with a link, and when the user clicks the link, which says something obvious, like 'preview', the link will expand to include a unit animation box.

Also, it would seem nice to see animation in the recruit/recall box too.
And this all begs the question: why the hell do we need all this? :|

For one:
I guess it would really look cool
For two:
Personally I think this is an excellent idea.
And for three:
We do not really need this. It's just a vain idea - but some of us here think it's cool. Although, we all have our preferences. Also animation in the docs might even give way to interactive animating tutorials, mini-story movies and all other related stuff.
I think this will slow down games even more. It already has a slight delay and lag when checking through the library during a game, and checking units can happen often enough when you want to make sure of an opponents res. With animations it will lag even more slowing down games as the user has to wait for it to load then read before they can get back to their turn.
May the drakes bloody kill you all.
