One other thing you might want to consider: ending up with the futuristic versions of fantasy races, something in the style of the Eldar and Orks in Warhammer 40,000.

I'd say Wesnoth races make more sense. If I want to play Civilization teams, I'll play Civilisation. A fantasy equivalent, on the other hand, has potential.
Bear in mind that anything that wildly digresses from Wesnoth gameplay will be a lot of work.

S3 My 'allied' reinforcements at the end of the scenario belong to the enemy side 5. It's probably just a typo, and they should belong to side 6. You are absolutely correct. By the way, I have finally observed this bug other people have reported about units disappearing on reload. The units are present in the save file, so I don't understand why they don't appear. Don't worry, still working on it. I've had a chocka September but I've now been able to turn attention to it again.
I'm currently doing some changes to chapter 1, but after that I intend to turn focus to the final scenario.
