Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
Given how quickly AOI went from "it's so poorly done, we should remove it" to a merge commit actually doing that, it makes me nervious to see someone talking about removing yet more campaigns. Removing one campaign might be OK. Removing several sounds like a recipe for disaster. A "re...

Re: Is there any way I can use BFW images in my games?
You're right. The specific question was for images. The image may, or may not, be usable by your own software (or even other Wesnoth UMC). You may, or may not, be allowed to distribute the image to others. And you may, or may not, be allowed to charge for the game with the image. The answer depends ...

Re: Is there any way I can use BFW images in my games?
True. But it would also require you to make the artwork and source code available for free so anyone can preproduce your game and give it away for free.

Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?
The alternative theory appears to be that the development of social behaviors drives brain size and intelligence. That seems to be debunked. The discussion will probably always be hypothetical because it's based upon assumptions made from the fosil record. I agree the linked study is not on point. I...

Re: Any thoughts on C++ Modules
As I understand it ... and remember, I've not started playing with actual code ... exporting a template is basically exporting the AST (abstract syntax tree) for use when needed. This should save compilation time by avoiding the re-parse and syntax analysis phases, at the cost of forcing every compi...

Re: Is there any way I can use BFW images in my games?
See the Wesnoth Copyrights for details. Most likely, the answer is no, you can't sell the artwork. If selling is important to you, I'd suggest hiring an artist and commissioning original works under some license you and your artist can agree upon. I say "most likely" because the vast major...

Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?
I fail to see how primates on the western and central plains of Africa would have access to seaweed in the quantities needed to avoid general malnutrition through the population. But, whatever. I'm sure that some individuals may well have gathered a bit of seaweed here, or there, and could even acce...

Any thoughts on C++ Modules
I read a series of blog posts (specifically, at vector-of-bool) on the ins-and-outs (and some surprising asides) of C++ Modules. While some of the specifications are still in flux, they're setting down for c++20, and it's looking very interesting. Of course, as reading, I was thinking of how modules...

Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?
I'm a mathematician and programmer, not an evolotionary biologist, but I remember reading articles long ago along the lines of this one I found after 5 or 10 minutes with Google: Brain evolution, the determinates of food choice, and the carnivore's dilema. It's not precisely on point but points out ...

Re: [POLL] What Operating Systems do you use Wesnoth on?
I didn't see one on the trends page. Maybe I missed it. Total downloads are interesting but don't really mean much for comparisons since the start date varies wildely. I'd probably store the numbers and offer a drill-down feature, or a checklist selecting which addons to show, and graph the results ...

Re: lua mysteries
Wesnoth presently has Lua 5.3.5 built-in on master and the 1.14 branch. The following standard Lua libraries are loaded: "table" "string" "math" "coroutine" "debug" "os" (see below) "utf8" N.B. All Lua language features, including...

Re: lua mysteries
The full language is available.
Several optional, add-on libraries which come with the language are disabled.
To answer the question more specifically: stick to the Lua language and avoid the use of libraries and you'll be fine.

Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?
Tell that to the Sumatran Rhino. At some point there are not enough individuals to make the species viable. Your using bad logic though. From research we learn high (species) intelligence implies the consumption of meat. That does not mean meat eating implies high intelligence. The issue, though, is...
