Re: Official new ladder thread
I'm excited to see some interest in developing new features for the unofficial Wesnoth Ladder. I am personally extremely open to adding Trueskill and another other features to the current ladder. In fact, if anyone is willing to assist in adding these features, I'm happy to share commit access, ladd...

Re: Implement the Wesnoth Ladder
In the hopes of sparking someone's interest. Here's one thing that both Wesnoth and the ladder need: A game result screen. When a game is over. The winner should be determined and a summary should display that shows who won. It would be neat if the screen had some cool art on it. It could even tell ...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
Also you should write a news announcement on the ladder home page. I Believe Rigor or Master of Battle can do this. A Motd message could say, "The unofficial competitive gaming ladder can now be found at http://wesnoth.gamingladder.info". A wiki update is fine, but if you really want peop...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
That is correct, the Wesnoth gaming ladder is back. I hadn't posted it yet, because i needed some testers to check it out. It has never been moved before and problems were expected. I believe replays are repaired. If there are any problems, feel free to contact me through gregboggs.com.

Re: Ladder Site Online...
Unless someone wants to patch the ladder to download replays from the Wesnoth Replay Archive instead of from the ladder server, one of those 'unlimited' shared hosting accounts isn't going to cut it. I found the password to the FTP in my filezilla and I've accessed the server via IP address. There a...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
The subversiva.org domain has been sold. And the free account it was using is tied to that domain. The ladder actually consumed significant server resources due to replay downloads that make running it on shared hosting difficult. I'm hopeful that the dev team will see the value in the ladder and he...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
There was an archive of ladder replays on the server taking up hundreds of megs from 09 and before in a folder called PreviousLadder. There were totally inaccessable from the web and not a single person ever complained that they weren't there. So, I'm pretty sure they are copies of files that are al...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
Adding code to the ladder is not hard. Several good programmers worked to make sure it was modular, easy to understand, and easy to change. Creating a new ladder from scratch would be a waste of time. The current ladder can be turned into any system and we are happy to add you to the project commit ...

Re: Implement the Wesnoth Ladder
While this is an idealistic idea Sauron, the main feature of a ladder currently does not exist for Wesnoth. That main feature to have is ladder matches being randomly matched between players. Reporting of the matches is solved by the current solution. Wesnoth communicating data to the ladder would o...

Re: Implement the Wesnoth Ladder
This is how I can disagree with chains without disagreeing with eyerouge. I agree with Eyerouge on everything. If his words suit you better than mine, use his. My goal was simply to write down some of the many ideas we've discussed over the years so that they might be useful. Pick what you like, co...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
Taking this point of view, every action to reduce the influence of the RNG should automatically enhance balance. This might be minor, but removing RNG isn't directly enhancing balance, but rather making balance more dependent on faction, map, and unit balance. So, if one faction is better than anot...

Re: Implement the Wesnoth Ladder
One "small" feature that I think is lacking in wesnoth and that imho must be included if you are going to create an integrated ladder is: "surrender". If players can't tell the game that they surrender there isn't any other way but to kill the leader to determine if the save-gam...

Re: Implement the Wesnoth Ladder
@Aethaeryn you and I agree on everything point for point. Except one. Having more than two ladders isn't more complex. Selectively eliminating default maps from "play game" will be MORE complex. The settings screen would allow you to specify if you wanted a 2v2 or 1v1 map and you don't nee...

Re: Share undoable moves with allies
Yeah replies to replies. Great points all through. Do you often accidentally select units and then left click elsewhere? Seems a bit unlikely to me. Otherwise, we probably need an option to have planning mode on or off by default when it's not your turn. Everyday I play Wesnoth someone says "mi...

Re: Share undoable moves with allies
This post is another method to implement the same feature with a lot less design complexity. Add arrows to the default interface for all undoable moves. So in games with no fog, or in games with "delay shroud updates", or for moves that do not cause a blocking event. Place the ghost where ...
