neoriceisgood: talk a bit more over aim before I sleep
Auto response from FullDarkShift: Why yes, we are
made of awesome.
neoriceisgood: ok ; ; ?
FullDarkShift: yey
neoriceisgood: So
neoriceisgood: how did the quick summary of the demo story sound xD..?
FullDarkShift: interesting.
neoriceisgood: The real story will have an actual ACTUAL villain
neoriceisgood: but I think there's something cute that fits real well with the characters about the initial story.
neoriceisgood: I don't want this typical
neoriceisgood: "Happy kingdom is under attack by the bad monster-sama"-type of "all the townspeople are saints" scenario
FullDarkShift: Yes, it does get quite tiresome.
neoriceisgood: Nearly every character in the game will have some terrible character flaw
neoriceisgood: Well, except for Overlord Cersagan.
neoriceisgood wants to directly connect.
FullDarkShift is now directly connected.
neoriceisgood: hm
neoriceisgood: hold on.
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: frogatto related characters
neoriceisgood: the ones circled in red probably won't be important or won't appear at all.
neoriceisgood: [they mostly don't fit the story.]
FullDarkShift: hmm.
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: Milgram and his two non-generic henchmen
neoriceisgood: Milgram, Daev and not sure about the kitty
neoriceisgood: but you beat the kitty up at the town elder's
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: I'll resprite some of em to look better
neoriceisgood: But these guys are the main villain cast for the final game
neoriceisgood: top row is most important, mid row important lower row not very important.
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: This is Overlord Cersagan
neoriceisgood: He's a democratic dictator who wants to
launch a global propaganda campaign to satisfy his
megalomoniacal urges, he thinks that under his strict dictation
the world will be a better place; but he only wants to obtain
that power through a reliable and vote based governing system.
FullDarkShift: you mean like hitler?
neoriceisgood: Hitler was a fascist, Cersagan actually has
good intentions :]
FullDarkShift: So did hitler.
FullDarkShift: Now stalin on the other hand, was just
plain insane.
neoriceisgood: >>
neoriceisgood: Yeah..
FullDarkShift: Read "Dinner with Stalin".
neoriceisgood: he's not supposed to be like hitler
neoriceisgood: he's a bit of a parody of the evil overlord
who wants to take over the world
neoriceisgood: He's sending out an army of robots that tell
people how great Cersagan is, rather than being violent.
FullDarkShift: huh
neoriceisgood: You know how typical bad guys in RPGs and
uhh...megaman
neoriceisgood: want to conquer the world?
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: This is Regal
neoriceisgood: he's Cersagan's advisor.
FullDarkShift: Quite regal, he is.
neoriceisgood: I gotta redo his sprite entirely cause I
redesigned him A LOT
FullDarkShift: epaulettes, or however you spell that.
neoriceisgood: yeah, those will stay
neoriceisgood: He's a prince from one of the most powerful
kingdoms in the world, but he vanished many years ago :c
neoriceisgood: Okay I'll warn you
neoriceisgood: the story behind the villains is com pli cat ed
neoriceisgood: I've had over 9 years to come up with it, so
it's this intricite piece of retarded double motives 8D..
FullDarkShift: Heh.
neoriceisgood: So don't hate me for it, okay ? ; ;
FullDarkShift: I usually don't.
neoriceisgood: Okay
neoriceisgood: After the Milgram incident
neoriceisgood: weird looking robots start randomly attacking
the island frogatto lives on
neoriceisgood: chapter 1: milgram
neoriceisgood: chapter 2: invasion
neoriceisgood: at that point of the story the biggest
question is; where the hell do these robots come from, and
why are they attacking.
neoriceisgood: I think this chapter will cut to a few scenes
of Milgram talking about his propaganda robots and stuff;
making him seem like the villain at times.
neoriceisgood: err
neoriceisgood: not milgram
neoriceisgood: cersagan*
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: now these two work together
neoriceisgood: the bottom guy, Jieah is Regal's advisor/lackey
neoriceisgood: at the end of the 2nd chapter of the story, you'll face and fight Jieah; who gives some clues regarding the origin of the robots
neoriceisgood: and who essentialy declares war on the entire island.
neoriceisgood: Third chapter is discovering the origin of the robots
neoriceisgood: I made a quick sketch
neoriceisgood:
FullDarkShift: hmm
neoriceisgood: Giant space ship that's keeping a flying island with a hidden temple on it in the sky.
neoriceisgood: and yes, the absurd nature of this construct is explained.
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: Essentialy you have frogatto's island, with the huge space ship right above it.
FullDarkShift: @_@
neoriceisgood: xD..what?
FullDarkShift: You've been busy.
neoriceisgood: Now the 4th chapter is reaching the ship after discovering it, because it's deemed as the only way to stop the attacks on the island.
neoriceisgood: Now this kind of explains the player/frogatto's perspective
neoriceisgood: up till this point it's mostly the robots attacking the map with occasional cutscenes to hint at what's going on.
neoriceisgood: This is the part where I've probably gone out of my reach to make the story incomprehensible
neoriceisgood: So: what goes on within the ship?
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: These three are the main players that are kind of stuck in a weird relationship.
FullDarkShift: Interesting.
neoriceisgood: Cersagan is wealthy, powerful and actually capable of creating huge fucking space ships.
neoriceisgood: Regal is good, but kinda..stuck defines it, literally and by figure of speech.
FullDarkShift: heh
neoriceisgood: the third one, Sizzix is..well, he's the real "villain"
neoriceisgood: His story is quite simple
neoriceisgood: Once upon a time in an ancient civilization
neoriceisgood: A very powerful group of people had a good idea.
neoriceisgood: To rid civilization of "evil" once and for all
neoriceisgood: They had deviced a way to create the living incarnation of evil, and use that as a kind of sockpuppet to banish all evil of the world into it.
neoriceisgood: Not realising that it's a stupid idea to try and rid the world of one of the most subjective terms imaginable
FullDarkShift: Yeah.
neoriceisgood: all they managed to do was create this being that represented corruption, without really..managing to change the world..at all.
neoriceisgood: But because they hadn't really thought of a way to destroy it; they decided to lock it in a temple for the time being.
neoriceisgood: Slight problem: the thing they created corrupted the land around it and the longer it remained dormant; the more damage it did
neoriceisgood: foreward into the future and the effects became notable, so a few more modern kingdoms had all set up a group of what they'd imagine to be the
perfect "weapons" to use in destroying "evil"
neoriceisgood: This was the evil vanquishing task force that entered the temple to try and destroy the corruption.
neoriceisgood: Now, this didn't end well at all
FullDarkShift: munch, munch
neoriceisgood: Well, most escaped ;p
neoriceisgood: It's not important to the game what happened to some of em; I have nearly 500 characters designed related to frogatto's overal story >_>
neoriceisgood: The thing is, one of them had found the solution to one problem.
neoriceisgood: As long as something that could be considered uncorruptable was inside the temple, the corruption inside couldn't get stronger or expand it's reach.
neoriceisgood: So he did the Jesus thing to do and essentialy locked himself inside with the corruption as it was the only effective way to prevent it from influencing
the world at all.
neoriceisgood: Now, all of this is just prologue to the frogatto story xD..
neoriceisgood: essentialy
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: Sizzix is evil/the corruption
FullDarkShift: Okay.
neoriceisgood: He'll have other forms throughout the game, but he's a real threat
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: Regal is the person who remained within the temple as the uncorruptable object that restrained sizzix.
neoriceisgood: He's essentialy stuck there, because hell would break loose again if he'd leave the temple.
neoriceisgood: He's been there for a long time, so he's been corrupted to an extend; but Sizzix can't really grasp shades of grey, so to sizzix that means he's
completely strayed from being good
neoriceisgood: Now.. Cersagan.
neoriceisgood:
neoriceisgood: Jieah represents a form of pure loyalty to Regal, and he's the prince's communication tool to the outside.
neoriceisgood: The whole story begins this way:
neoriceisgood: Regal notices that the corruption of Sizzix is
finally getting to him to the extend where Sizzix is notably
gaining strenght again, which means big trouble for him and
the world.
neoriceisgood: He sends out Jieah to find some sort of
replacement, a hero or a saint, to avoid regal falling before
the corruption.
neoriceisgood: Now Jieah brings meets Cersagan, and brings
him back to the temple.
neoriceisgood: Cersagan, being a person who hopes to rival
the legends of the old world is familiar with who Regal is, and
goes kind of fanboy over him.
FullDarkShift: okay.
neoriceisgood: now it gets kind of vague near this point
neoriceisgood: [I'm actually filling in a lot of gaps for the
story while writing it, it's all been in my head until now xD]
neoriceisgood: The main reason Jieah brings Cersagan back
is not because he'd be a proper replacement, but because of
his noticable abillities in crafting huge physics-defying
aircrafts.
neoriceisgood: So regal convinces Cersagan that he'll be a
figurehead for his political campaign as a hero of old times if
cersagan will help him build a ship that'll allow the temple to
actually move.
neoriceisgood: [as I said, the airship holding a temple up
would be explained xD]
FullDarkShift: :-)
neoriceisgood: Okay..relations..
neoriceisgood: Regal doesn't fully inform Cersagan for a
few reasons
neoriceisgood: he wants to appear like he's been corrupted
by sizzix to the extend where he just becomes greedy and in
the mood for global conquest, to avoid any trouble inside the
temple occuring
neoriceisgood: Cersagan doesn't know about Sizzix being in
the temple until ..well, somewhere in the game.
neoriceisgood: Now Cersagan's ship is a factory for his
propaganda robots; but well..this is where Regal's plan kicks
in.
neoriceisgood: Regal as a near uncorruptable entity being
corrupted has actually has some of sixxis his powers seep into
him, so he can "corrupt" as well, though in a different manner
neoriceisgood: it's a bit of a stretch
neoriceisgood: But without cersagan knowing it, Regal is
controlling his robots by essentialy "regalcorrupting" the
machines making them.
neoriceisgood: The reason for this being simple
neoriceisgood: There's only one way to find a true hero,
and that's to invoke a scenario that requires one.
neoriceisgood: the "the ends justify the means" label I gave
Regal comes in here.
neoriceisgood: The reason the island is under attack is
because Regal is invoking a war on the world to draw its
greatest heroes into the temple once more.
FullDarkShift: Regal attacks to make a hero rise up
who can defeat sixxis?
neoriceisgood: Yeah.
FullDarkShift: yes.
neoriceisgood: or at least subdue his power.
neoriceisgood: Cersagan is a tool regal uses to defeat evil
by making evil apparent to the world.
neoriceisgood: It's a very complicated story, but I think
I've avoided too many holes in there xD..
FullDarkShift: Nah, I like it. It's original, unlike the, uh,
allacrost story.
FullDarkShift: I seriously need to fucking override roots
there, and just chuck that shit out.
neoriceisgood: xD..
neoriceisgood: The thing is
neoriceisgood: I don't want a "boohoo evil villain destroys
the world" story.
neoriceisgood: What I love the best in any story is a villain
you can understand.
FullDarkShift: Allacrost's story - you know what's
hilarious, is that major elements of it aren't done. There's
no villain yet!
neoriceisgood: xD
FullDarkShift: The story is "uhm, like, demons attacks,
and ... uh ... claudius is gonna go search for a hero, but
it's actually him, and ... uh" that's all. :-(
neoriceisgood: ..that sounds..like a lot of rpgs.
FullDarkShift: It sounds like shit. :-(
neoriceisgood: I guess my very explicit story is kind
of..better in terms of imagination and originality?
FullDarkShift: It's definitely ... hmm.
FullDarkShift: It's tied to the same family because it's
derived from them. It's interesting, and it's a breath of
fresh air.
neoriceisgood: *saves convo for future references*
neoriceisgood: Tied to the same family ?
FullDarkShift: The key thing is - I think it works without
the original thing that it's "parodying", if you will - chiefly
because it's not specifically parodying anything.
FullDarkShift: Outside of the classic "hero cycle" seen
in myth.
neoriceisgood: Well.
neoriceisgood: Frogatto's motivation is a complete
non-sequitar
neoriceisgood: Throughout the story his reasons for doing
things fly all over the place.
FullDarkShift: The classic hero cycle is "evil afflicting
land, young protagonist gets the call to heroism (for
whatever good or bad reason), protagonist fights the evil,
and heals the land".
neoriceisgood: Oh yeah.
neoriceisgood: Regarding Regal.
neoriceisgood: The interesting thing is
neoriceisgood: In terms of what happens in the game
neoriceisgood: the classic hero is essentialy the villain.
FullDarkShift: So, I mean, it doesn't matter if your
'protagonist' is a child-consuming sodomite, if he removes
whatever -subjective- "evil" is threatening the land, he's a
hero.
neoriceisgood: Yeah.
neoriceisgood: Regal's good though, he's just not afraid of
sacrifice.
FullDarkShift: *nods*
neoriceisgood: I think this cycle is the best way
neoriceisgood: The "villain" is..relatable.
neoriceisgood: just a little notice though
neoriceisgood: The moment you succeed in invading the ship
neoriceisgood: all hell will break loose.
neoriceisgood: Because all ties between the villain cast will
become clear, not just to the player; but to eachother.
neoriceisgood: bosses will be fun though.
neoriceisgood: Corrupted Cersagan will definitely be there.
neoriceisgood: uhm..
FullDarkShift: On a totally unrelated note, can I get
some C&C on something?
neoriceisgood: Sure.
FullDarkShift: I'm trying to work on monster designs:
FullDarkShift:
http://www.allacrost.org/staff/user/jetryl/thing.png
neoriceisgood: Oh, neat.
FullDarkShift: Imagine Secret of mana + ... evil.
neoriceisgood: looks the part, for allacrost?
FullDarkShift: The fella on the right is a bit sketchy, still,
obviously
FullDarkShift: Yeah.
neoriceisgood: the only thing I'd say
neoriceisgood: it's legs look kinda useless.
neoriceisgood: if it's supposed to have frog like feet I'd
make its pose more dynamic
FullDarkShift: Good. They're supposed to look a bit
stumpy and funny.
neoriceisgood: okay.
neoriceisgood: if he's supposed to walk like a duck they
work ;p
FullDarkShift: Kinda more like rabbit legs crossed with
koala legs.
neoriceisgood: shading on the belly seems a bit..flat for
some reason.
FullDarkShift: I guess one thing I'm curious about is any
suggestions on technique - like just that.
neoriceisgood: other then that it looks very good.
neoriceisgood: technique?
FullDarkShift: Yeah.
