Possibility to change the gender in MP player selection?

Post by Iris »

The title is pretty self-explanatory. ("Possibility to change the gender in MP player selection?")

Well, I'm sure there are female Wesnoth players somewhere :?:, so I think it's kind of discriminatory for them not to provide a gender-selection option in MP player selection screen, for those leader units whose gender attribute is used and can be modified (i.e. Red Mage, Arch Mage, Elvish Marksman, Elvish Sharpshooter, etc.).

I thought about this some years ago, but never discussed this here.

it has been discussed at least twice, and both times most people seemed to agree, but... the idea got lost somewhere in the depths of the forum.

* support! its, like, less chauvinistic too.

It would of course only be an option for units which a male and female version
Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

It obviously shouldn't take priority over changes that noticably improve gameplay, but I've been thinking about this myself.

Oh, please. Implementing this shouldn't require much code.
If I could download the source code, I'd have tried it myself.

The Magic Words!

Do it yourself. And if something's so easy you could do it, then do it. Devs have plenty to do. That's why I'm a moderator. Frees them of one more thankless task so they can go on with the business of making Wesnoth better. But if you haven't actually tried something, don't talk about how easy it must be. Because everything takes time, even pointless politically correct implementations of multiple genders in MP, time that could be better spent elsewhere.

Anyone can download the source of the game from the download page
That is what Open Source stands for...

And, Yes, this has been discussed before. It has been recognized as a good idea, but it has a low priority
Theoretically, love is great
but it is a little bit different in practice.

You didn't get it, did you? I can't download it because of limited bandwidth connection.

I do have the source of 1.2.4, but I guess I should use the 1.3.x source code for this one.

EDIT:  Never mind, I'll force the connection to download the source code. Your words really convinced me to do this myself.
