...flag variation brainstorm thread...

Also more types of animated flags for the villages are welcome. Flag concepts may be race specific, or not. The team-colored portion of the flag should be made any brightness of pure green: i.e. red and blue values of 0
Would this work as an undead flag variation?
only a brainstorm, but is this the right idea?
_anyone with ideas/ images can also post them in here, don't feel like you need to make a new thread (I won't kill you for stealing my glory--I have no delusions of my skill )

Please! we don't need flags large enough to cover the villages.
Seriously, i recommend working at actual size.
1) it has the potential to actually be used
2) it is not misleading about how much detail can be included at actual size.

Currently, i believe, custom flags can only be used in campaigns. (see South Guard and SotBE). Once we have a decent assortment to choose from, i believe it will be pretty easy to add support to use custom-faction-flags in MP by default. Both UMC and mainline eras could take advantage of this.Drake Blademaster wrote:However, while this is a great idea, does a custom undead flag mean that Loyalists, and rebels, etc. get custom flags too? And if so, does that mean that Factions in EoM, or Imperial or any other user-made faction / era get custom flags too?
I would also like to see an option to use a custom flag per side of an MP battle.

A simple version of what I think could become the orcish/northerner flag, using the SotBE flag as a base.
Someone more skilled should clean it out, though: the movement near the top parts should be toned down (the top of the flag/rag shouldn't wave as much as the bottom does).

Here's a couple variations that came about just messing with the default flag last night, was thinking elves when I made em. I did a couple others at work today too but forgot to send them to myself so will post tomorrow.

Zookeeper and BreadMan's ideas are fine, but be aware that they are still significantly larger than our default flag. Unless a flag is campaign specific, i believe they should all be about the same size.

Well, my orcish flag at least ain't that much bigger. I mean that the boundary dimensions are pretty much the same, even though my flag is arguable "bigger". Also, for all I care the new flags could indeed be slightly bigger than the old one - the old one probably gets used as a neutral default flag once the faction-specific ones are done.Eleazar wrote:Zookeeper and BreadMan's ideas are fine, but be aware that they are still significantly larger than our default flag. Also, I'd like to move the flags from behing the unit to either to the front of it (just moving it down to the bottom right corner of the hex) or perhaps to the top of the hex (although then it would overlap the north hex, which might be problematic since the flags are animated all the time). I like the bottom right corner better. Currently units often block the flag almost completely, and I don't think having the flag in front of the unit would look especially annoying. Of course this brings the question of what to do when the unit attacks south in melee.

The sizes aren't really that different.

My take on undead and a dwarf/orc type one. Perhaps getting too detailed, I assume we'd want them all to have a unified style...
As for placement, maybe just move them further to the right? I don't think it's that big of an issue personally, it's pretty obvious who owns a village when their unit is sitting on top of it...
This may be straying off topic, but what about adding flags to keeps?
