Alternative Dwarvish Fighter upgrade.... the Berserker.

Post by js138 »

I was just musing that much of the MP woes caused by the ulfserker stem from it being a L1 unit easily available.

If we scrapped it and instead make the Dwarvish Fighter fork at L2 into a Steelclad (wears more armour) or a Berserker (wears less, but gets the beserk attribute) this might solve two problems at once - that of the ulfserver and that of the lack of forking in the dwarf tree.

It also creates room for a L1 dwarvish magic or rune user if one is desired.

Just an idea.

Just so everyone knows, this would be basically a reversion - this is how it was in version ~0.7, and then the berserker was given a different base unit, the ulfserker, because people thought it was odd the fighted advanced into it.

However, that doesn't mean I think this is a bad idea. :)

It would, IMHO, make the dwarvish fighter more appealing, and it makes sense to me in terms of realism. I like it.

I'm inclined to agree with this change.

Having both the Ulf and Fighter get to level to the Berserker could make for some interesting strategies.

And then Knalagans would lose their lvl1 "mage". I really dislike this idea.

Well, yeah...

Personally, I think that the fighter line does need more diversity, but the berserker won't really give it to them.

How about

Code: Select all

Dwarvish Fighter -> Dwarvish Steelclad -> Dwarvish Lord
-> Dwarvish Runesmith -> Dwarvish Runemaster

i agree that the dwarfs do need some kind of magical unit that can help them, and i believe that they also require some better ranged units as well.

Hmm...where is that topic about the Rune Master.

You see, the dwarves aren't very magical. They are more technical, hence the Thunderer. An axe-thrower makes more sense to me. A rune master might work because he reads runes to create magic.

technicly all races have some kind of magical ability except the dwarfs arent known for it. but i see where you are coming from and my idea probably wouldnt work in this game so the axe thrower does make more sence

If knalgans will be splitted, maybe thwre will be room for 2 new units - Runemaster and Axethrower.
