Why, I don't even know what you're talking about.... :whistle:

And I personally like the bronze shield better, mainly because it matches the rest of him.

I suspect what he means is 'will that shield look good when the team colour is black, and therefore blends in with it?'

And yeah, it wouldn't, so bronze is better.

Don’t forget that it’s possible for people to check that by themselves with Wesnoth RCX.

I think swapping weapon and shield hands might look weird when levelling up. :hmm:

Not really, given that it doesn't look odd when the unit changes its facing. Indeed, it's quite helpful, on similar units, to differentiate them that way.

The new guy seems a bit punier than the first guy in the upgrade tree.

I quite like the new level 2 hoplite, though it might need a little more contrast, probably of the darker darks variety (like the level 4 has on the shadowed side.) The spear is kinda jagged but I know there is only so much you can do with that angle and it might be the best that you can do without extensive use of transparency, which is a major major pain and pretty much the last thing you want to do after everything else is done. Speaking of, does anyone know of a program or process that lets you paint a transparency layer, as in defining a % transparency for a pixel without attaching it to a color and then burning that down onto an image in a lower layer? Bit of a hijack, but this capability would be very useful for stuff like this where you could toy with % transparencies without messing with the image and without having them lost when you make any changes to the image. Anyway...

The level 3 hoplite is shaded very nicely, but the shape of the head and the pose bother me a bit. In terms of the pose, it's rather off-balance; in fact, it's not far from a mid-thrust like pose, I think. Easiest solution would be shuffling the legs and feet around a bit, as the upper part looks great. The helmet's bottom left area could use some work though. The bright highlight along the lower edge and the rounded back are clashing and making it look deformed rather than having depth. I made a quick edit to that area that looked a little better to my eye, though I'll certainly take no offense if you disagree.

I'm loving the new style of these guys. Keep 'em coming!

Sounds like you are asking about masks. Yes, that is possible with GIMP (and so probably PS too). Not entirely sure it is something that should be done with pixel art, though I'm not expert. If you want to discuss it, let's start a new thread.

Vranca: Along the lines of what shiremct said, contrast helps imply curvature (3rd dimension? is it clear what I mean?) This is part of what makes the new guy look less bulky than the lower level, as Zerovirus said. He's got a narrower chest because of the dark pixels.

Thanks everyone for comments!
@Zerovirus:
Yeah you're right.When i was making him i shrinked him a few times cause he was as big as the lvl.3.Well it won't be that hard to fix,i think i'll have some time tomorrow.
@shiremct:
Good catch on the helmet i fixed it.I like the pose as it's quite dynamic to me,but if others think it's not good i could play with it a bit.
@doofus-01:
I get what your saying about effects of contrast,but i don't understand are you saying i should decrease contrast?

EDIT:Here's the fix.Is it good now?
