This is very impressive. The skin colors on this version do look much better, they give a better sense of depth. Very good job on the posing; this is an area you sometimes have some trouble with but you've done a great job here. Keep up the good work.

I think it looks like you're trying to chisel too many muscles into the tiny space of his torso, and it ends up as kind of a mess of lines. It also looks like his making-a-fist-of-defiance arm has an extra bone in the elbow. Beyond that, I don't know enough about pixel art to say anything meaningful.
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.

I agree the Anubite is quite swell. :D

The light hoplite looks good in general. But like some of your other sprites he lacks a big enough pelvis imo. Either that or short legs.

I like the spear resting on shoulder stance, but as of now it does not quite look like it is actually resting there. I'd either change the angle or move it and the head slightly forward.
Sometimes we must be hurt in order to grow, fail in order to know, lose in order to gain, and sometimes we must have to be broken so we can be whole again...

I think i fixed the spear problem but not so sure about the pelvis,i tried something but i don't think it has any major effect :hmm:
I would appreciate advice or an edit by anyone on the pelvis problem...

Hello!

Its shape does look good! But like almost all other aspiring pixel-artists on these forums, you pillowshade and abuse thin lines needlessly! Here is a fix!

Thank you for the edit, there are a lot of useful fixes there. Also the color pallet is cool, but not really what i was going for,it's too bright, and the breastplate lost a lot of muscle definition it had,but all in all it's very useful to analyze so i can improve, thank you very much!

Thank you for the response.

I of course don't want to & can't tell you what to do, but this is a mindset that I strongly suggest you change.

Pixel-art is all about lossy abstraction; a head can easily lose ears, eyebrows, even nose and mouth, and look much better than what it would have looked like had those details been rendered explicitly. If the figure looks roughly man-like, a viewer will still assume those details to be where they should be; he won't assume the figure is instead a freak with no ears, eyebrows, mouth, nose and eyes unless the figure is contrasted with other figures who have those facial features depicted explicitly.

Features like muscle definitions on an ancient Greek breastplate are exactly the sort of features that are best only implied at with slight reflection irregularities. The viewer will subconsciously generate possible 3d models from which such reflections will form if the light comes from certain directions; if the viewer has ever been acquainted with ancient Greek breastplates as you may assume most people seeing that sprite in-game to have been, he will assume those reflection irregularities to derive from the muscle definitions that can be at times found on ancient Greek breastplates in real life and in popular media.

:o That reminds me, are you still planning on making an Ancient Greek/Persian etc. Era? If so, I suddenly had an idea for it yesterday. Let me know if you're interested. :)

Since there are no crits,I started working on another one in hoplite line, but since it's not finished here is a variation on the spartan though i favor the bronze shield. What does everyone else think?
