Is there a spanish community in Wesnoth?
Hi guys! Since I've benn playing wesnoth and now I'm working in the developing of my UMC's a doubt come on into my mind: Is there a web or forum or IRC for the spanish wesnoth community?.
In fact I've searched it in google and there aren't any active pages. I don't know how many spanish people play wesnoth.

Probably very few. They do a very lousy job at translating Wesnoth too.perseo wrote:I don't know how many spanish people play wesnoth.

I KNOW SPANISH PLAYERS! But I think telling them would be a breach of their privacy. :L
Most of them, play against random people and not together. Some of them contribute to the forums a lot.

Thanks for your answers! I feel a bit quilty because I've never colaborated in the translations. This summer I'll help with it I promise!
Of course Cookie I didn't expect anyone tell me who are spanish players. Simply I created the threat for those spanish players who want to make a more or less united community. It's always nice playing with people you can speak in your mother tongue.

Yes it is. But due to our general low English level in Spain, I think is good not having a Spanish comunity on wesnoth. We would become lazy about playing games with English chat. I think worth give it some effort to be part of world comunity, instead a little one.perseo wrote: It's always nice playing with people you can speak in your mother tongue.
I even would encurage everyone to use English in wesnoth language settings, as is uncomfortable have issues like this:
player1: "Please, place your poacher on 30.22 to cover my archer"
player2: "hummmm... what is a poacher?"
Be aware English is not my first language and I could have explained bad myself using wrong or just invented words.

You give a "great" image of our educational system. But sadly true And i sometimes make messes with the units names (the ones which are translated). I agree with your opinion but I'm still thinking that having a spanish community will help to make this game more knew in spanish-speakers countries.

Obviusly when I speak of spanish people I mean argentinians, chilean, ecuadorian, mexican. The link is the mother tongue that all speak and let us talk without having a dictionary open in the table or inventing words every sentence.

Though it's been a few years since I was active in multiplayer, I recall bumping into quite a few people who spoke primarily spanish.
Re: Is there a spanish community in Wesnoth?
Yes? I'm thinking about searching spanish people (I'm not very active in multiplayer). Of course, the spanish translations are sometimes horribles.

You could try going onto the multiplayer server and asking in the lobby occasionally if there was any spanish players around. Ofc not spamming it.
You could also make games only for spanish. You would have to write that on the titles though. for example. Cookies game for spanish players only

I would recommend the wording "Spanish speaking" instead of "Spanish", if you don't really target only players from Spain, just to avoid any misunderstandings. (You might then also get some non-native Spanish speakers which want to exercise there Spanish.)

Another trick is to make a locked game, and put the password in the game title in such a way that only Spanish (or whatever language) speakers will know that it's there. "Cookie's Spanish Game; To Enter, Type Cookie" translated into the relevant language.cookie wrote:You could try going onto the multiplayer server and asking in the lobby occasionally if there was any spanish players around. By the way, here’s a little bit of history about the translation proper.
