Server migration and downtime
Thanks to chains help and all that donated, we just got a new server for an acceptable price where we are going to host basically every service Wesnoth does offer. That is we want to migrate the multiplayer server, content server, forum, wiki and all the other stuff to this machine. The content server and the multiplayer servers are already running there. This weekend we will work on migrating all the other stuff over. Due to this we will have to deactivate the wiki and forums and shut down the content server for some hours since we need the bandwidth to transfer all the data. The multiplayer server will still be up and running, but everything else will not be completely reachable starting on Saturday, May 24th around 12:00 GMT. Things will be up again once we are done, if we are lucky we might be done within 12 hours though it is unlikely. We hope to have all things working again on the new machine Sunday evening.
Stay tuned for the nice things we will be able to do once everything is on the same machine. Things like registered nicks for the multiplayer server with the same login ingame as used for the forum as well as a webinterface to the content server which might even allow rating of campaigns will get possible (once someone writes the code to do so).
Probably the migration will case some smaller problems for the first days like some subdomains not directly working as expected and things like this. We hope to be able to solve those problems as soon as possible, but it might take several days until everything works perfectly. Beside this you will notice that the migration itself is done, when you see an updated news on the frontpage and you can use the forums again, since we won't post the news on the old location and it will take some time until all the DNS entries are updated for every user.

Re: Server migration and downtime
Most of the migration is done by now. At the end we have seen that we can not move the content server (campaigns.wesnoth.org) to the new location due to bandwidth limitations. I am currently working on getting campaigns.wesnoth.org back to the old location. This will take many more hours to complete and until it is done, the addon server is not available.
Beside this everything should be up again and working.

Re: Server migration and downtime
There might be another short downtime for the forums over the nex two days. Not everything went out as planned when moving them and we still need to get these things straight. You can expect it between 2 and 5am GMT today (and again tommorow if the need is still there, but that's unlikely)
EDIT: Guess what, not everything went as planned again Downtime postponed for tommorow.

Somewhere, between the sacred silence and sleep.
Disorder.
Disorder.
Re: Server migration and downtime
Okay, the add-on server campaigns.wesnoth.org is now back at the old location and should be running. It will take some time until the DNS entry for everyone of you points to the new (old) location of 88.191.12.200. In the meantime just use these entries to get the add-ons:
I hope everything works as expected now.
Code: Select all
stable 1.4.x series:
88.191.12.200:15005
development series 1.5.x and trunk:
88.191.12.200:15003
