That's really great! I am a little confused on the shading, though. Is the light coming from the upper front (eye sockets) or straight on (skeletal face)? Maybe that's one of the things that makes it a WIP. Otherwise the style and colors are great (sorry for my inexpert opinion). Do you have plans for any kind of texture (although compared to some of the existing human portraits it appears to be on par)?

You always have had a flair for skulls.
The purple colur kind of makes me think of a catholic bishop, but maybe that's a good thing?

Upper front, although the hat would disagree. Thanks for the kind words

And yes, he does look catholic, but so does the sprite :D

Regarding texture, if you look at a real skull they can be quite porous in places. I was thinking some very light monochromatic noise with a low opacity to add some depth to the texture of the skull without distracting from the cell shaded...ness.

Maybe some evil glow in the eye orbits would make the portrait more different from a skeleton with a hat ?

:) Pic, it's lookin' good.
The nose has me a tad puzzled, it doesn't quite fit the rest of the image.

I'll darken the interiors of the nose, as the light isn't coming from directly in front as the nose would suggest. Most the time in skulls this area isn't really highly visible because of the same reasons of lighting and I’m thinking this is one of those times as well.

Are we talking, balls of evil light? Flame? New reddish light from unknown source. Flame would be cool in a bikers tattoo way

I thought about this, but I'm fine with it either way - I can imagine evil eyes really messing up the image and can live with a good skeleton-only image. This portrait is effective this way since it is closer to the [creepy] Clash of the Titans Charon than the [cartoony] Army of Darkness army. Of darkness.

I thought about that too, and would have to agree; it may make it look a bit like a villain from Scooby doo (Not doubt Mr Jiles with battery packs hidden under the robes for the evil eye effect).

But saying that, the glow will be done on a different layer, so i will post one with and without glow and let it be decided by general consensus.

Perhaps you can make the eyes dark giving them an impression of infinite depth? Something creepy which gives a feeling of strange magics an ordinary human can not comprehend. I know this is very vague but perhaps you'll get an idea on how to actually draw it.

All versions of glow eyes can be seen at the beginning of the thread.

Update with a poll! Much easier to tell who likes what overall that way

I think it would look best with no glow, but with much darker sockets - almost black.
