Mind flayers

Postby Ayin » May 8th, 2004, 12:44 pm

My first attempt at drawing a unit tile :)

While talking about Cthulhu on #wesnoth, I felt the urge to draw an Illithid, aka Mind Flayer. For those neither familiar with D&D, Nethack, or any game where those appear, Mind Flayers are creatures that are able to suck other creature's brains, making them brainless slaves.

Noooo! Not Cthulu monsters!
I've had FAR too many Cthulu monsters recently, between Dominions2: Ascension Wars and Troubles of Middle Earth.

I'm not totally in favvor of mind-flayer (add to fight them in quite afew games) but they could be good additionnal underground units/monster.
I highly doubt there is a copyright on them since I saw them in many games from differentt societies. I'm not sure they are directly linked to Chtulu. Chtulu and associeted indescrible horrors is probably not (I'm not sure) copyrighted neither since authorship right last 50 years after the death of the author and Lovercraft died in the 30's.
Let's get Dagon as underwater god :).

See what Christophe said.

Troubles of Middle Earth, set cth_monsters=on.

One could, of course, argue that individual nasties cannot be copyrighted (I don't think Tolkien had a copyright on Trolls), but even so...
The game still includes the leaders- the unique monsters, such as Abhoth, Ahtu and Daoloth, the Render of the Veils.
Visit http://angband.oook.cz/monsters.php?q=s ... 2.2.1&u=on for a decent list.
