The BWH list - Frequently Proposed GOOD ideas.

Post by Eleazar »

Frankly lots of the ideas brought up here are bad, vauge or unworkable.

Yet good ideas are proposed. In fact sometimes a good ideas is well proposed, discussed etc. Too often when no-one immediately has time to work on them, they are nearly forgotten.

Listing good ideas should be as important FPI. Besides saving time rehashing, such a list would be a reference for people who want to do something for Wesnoth, and avoid the messy concept-approval process.

Please post BWH ideas on this topic with links to the topic (or better the post) that best explains the idea.
Please, no posting of ideas that have not recieved general or developer's approval. Also this is not the place to post about specific graphics.

BWH means "Been suggested before. We think it's a good idea. Hope to add it eventually."

Reason: Unstickied, because this is completely obsolete and unmaintained.

AFAIR:

1) Make different dirs for different campaigns and for multiplayer in saves/ directory.

2) Allow nick registration on MP.

There also was:

- time limit for MP: already done
- Allow 'private game' or 'password lock' option while creating the game: already done

Quite possible that I forgot about some ideas..

4. Content type labels: Campaign server filters and sorts by campaigns, eras, unit packs, and map packs.

5. Version checking: The client knows what version you have of everything you downloaded and tells you when an update is available on the campaign server.

6. Ratings: the client allows you to assign a 1-5 star rating to any item on the campaign server similar to Netflix and iTunes.
Hope springs eternal.

Eleazar, this is an awesome idea. Maybe you could keep updating the first post with BWH's as people post them?

Here's a couple I suggested that seemed to have support:
* Unit info to include 'advances from' as well as 'advances to' <link>
* A 'back' button for campaign 'intro' dialogs <link>
* Status dialog to list total uncaptured villages (unless shroud on) <link>
* A 'wait' pointer when loading things (a progress bar would be even better!) <link>
* Support for subdirectories in your saved games folder <link>
* Help pages for units to include their cost <link>
* Campaign server to display descriptions of campaigns, not just titles <link>
* Mouseover showing movement range to work on your own units as well as the enemy <link>
* Scenario-specific statistics to be available <link>
* Moving over a magic item to open a dialog telling you about it, and confirming if you want to pick it up. <link>
* (A subset of) the in-game help to be automatically derived from (a subset of) the wiki. <link>

[EDIT]
Some that other people suggested:
* Categorisation and Dependencies for the add-on server <link>
* Add-ons to keep track of installation status <link>
[/EDIT]

Noone replied to this one, but I doubt anyone would oppose it:
* Shift-click to select multiple campaigns for download <link>

Here are some ideas while not quite officially BWH, have recieved positive feedback. (or at least little disagreement)

The game should only display the basic terrain type name
Custom terrains should be useable in the map editor
* Multiple units should be recall-able at once
New Campaigns should be added to the main distribution
Team ellipses appear on selected units even when ellipses are turned off

I hope the dev team goes through these and "stickifies" the some to make them official.

Post by Horus »

Hello and thanks for such a great game,

Can you make a option to skip the replay of a mp game if you rejoin(join) ?

and i would like to see that the server give an info to all players if other players go/got disconnect.

Done, although I suspect that you could have done so by editing your first post

Improve the help/description window to make it easier to navigate, categorize, and research units in general.
