Re: Cloud's animations

Post by Girgistian »

Well the hammer needs dark (not black) outlines, for one, and the dwarf-side of it probably should be darker than the bright lining it currently has. The trousers also lack a little subtlety, as they're slightly jagged at the moment. On a very positive note, those feet look much better than the ones on the base frame. Otherwise he looks pretty decent, I think.

I'll try and deal with those comments in the morning, if I do anything now I'll probably end up making it worse. As for the blue name, well I gues it's up for the Gods to decide.

Patience, it will come.

And yeah, that's looking nice. We'll need a defence anim for that frame too, of course.

Nice work on the animations.

Considering that they do their only magic through enchanted runes, I'd say Dwarves need to be good spellers.

Impressive work, I especially like the hammer strike. It's nice to see that the dwarves are finally getting these animations. (I love playing dwarves.. ;) )

Yeah, I'd hate to see the after-effects of that..

Another attempt at the hammer, and hopefully fixing up the shading points Grig mentioned.

Edit - and the first attacking frame shaded too. The hammer probably needs some work (as ever). Oh darn forgot the shield.

Body, arms and shoulderpads need a touch more higlighting I think.

I probably wouldn't make the corners that sharp - on such a small size, it looks conspicuously right-angled - just taking the one corner pixel off should help. And delineating the inner edges with shading rather than lines would also help - this is something where you can look to Karrag's hammer, it was done well on that one.

Keep it up =)

I think it's just the 90 degree angle that's doing it, the hammer on the first attack frame looks a lot better to me, now I see them together. I'll try and clone a smaller version of Karrag's hammer and work from there.

Update: the first attack frame with what I hope is a better version of the hammer. I'm tempted to just use this as the base frame. I've also decided to go against my eariler judgement and have the shield go into hammerspace. Much as I would have liked to keep it, I was feeling it was going to be too much work for too little reward, it might return later depending on people's comments.

Looks fine to me - I liked the shield being there, though. If you're going to remove it like this, you need to do something about that dead staight line down the back of the arm.

The hammer looks great =)

It's probably a better base frame considering the animations he'll be going through.

Seconded, it looks kinda odd if he returns to a relaxed position between strikes, and it would probably just cause unnescessary coding to use this one as the base frame only when he's fighting. Sure, it could liven it up, but why bother when you've already done a better job with the new one?

I'd agree, actually - I was thinking about suggesting it myself - it's worth noting that the Pathfinder doesn't go back to his ready stance during a melee attack - he holds his axe in roughly the same stance as the Explorer for his melee base frame.

Next frame done (well actually two frames done, but one is just the body 1px higher than the first so that doesn't need posting). Hopefully the hammer's about the right size.

Edit: Shield's missing, but I'll add the in soon.

Looks right, but the shape's off - the top should be flatter.

Fixed (hopefully). Included a backgrounded version to hopefully make it clearer.
