great! I gave it a try long ago but get disappointed when not being able to make escape all these people at scenario 3 I think.

Well, so far it seems to work OK in 1.6.1.

But balancing money is killing me. I noticed it is a problem in practicely any campaign I played. The scenario that's supposed to be difficult and force you to rely on gimmick X turns ot a cake walk as I roll over my opponent with a sea of units.
I'm seriously contemplating making the amount of money fixed for each mission.

Or maybe, limiting the number of units one could field. Hmmm.. I think a script could do it. If there's more than X units on your side then disallow recruitment for your side. Check every turn.

I'm also contemplating tweaking some missions to speed thing sup - have less units on hte ally or enemy side, but more powerfull ones. Or granting control. Tweaking AI. Still not sure yet.

Let's call all these things fine tuning
Sounds like you are on the good way to get something pretty good. :)

I hope I am.
I'm experimenting to speed up some scenarios. For instance, I made the 09_Royal_Escort map smaller and reduced the turn number, so it plays faster.

I now have to experiment with recall lists and manipulation thereoff.

Slower than expected.
I have a short attention span (sometimes) and a compulsive modding disorder (always). :P
Very good for overall productivity, but not always good for a single project.

Hey folks - beginner here, helping my boys with their campaign making dreams...
Did you solve the "illegal character in map" error issue? It's popping up for us after creation of a map in the 1.6 map editor. An older map seems to work fine... Did making a new map just solve it for you, or did you have to avoid certain tiles, etc...?
Many thanks,

Did you use terrain that was labeled as belonging to a certain campaign? If so, that is most likely while you got that error, which you have seemed to notice by mentioning avoiding certain tiles.

Aha. I will ask the young gentlemen if they have been using other campaigns' tiles.... So - that's a no-no? Core tiles only? Or can one use other campaign tiles somehow? This segues into a question that is coming soon for us - can one use units or graphics from other campaigns or factions? I'm thinking permission must be asked and granted, but how might that work?
If this is getting too off-topic, forgive me...!
And thanks --

Everything's under GPL, so you can use it without asking, though of course you can if you want to. Generally, it's hard to know who to ask because things have been borrowed so much already, not to mention that many pieces of art or code are the work of multiple people in the first place!
I assume the error you're getting is when you try to play the map? The "illegal character" would (I imagine) be because the terrain isn't defined in your campaign. Try copying the appropriate file into your terrains folder.

EDIT:: Campaign terrains folder, that is.

danj, you would have to include that terrain in your campaign folder, as usually it resides in the folder for another campaign, and so Wesnoth is not looking for it there.

Thanks so much for your help...! I'll give that a try with the boys - and try with units eventually, as well.
Again, many thanks - a best of luck with your campaign --

Guys, I uploaded a new version for the latest Wesnoth release.

Not finished and not tested. Only tweaks to the first 4 missions, I still have quite a few balancing fixes to do for the latter missions. I'm trying to make the big battles less tedious.

All tiles should be included. I don't recall leaving anything out.
