Please help me with the hebrew translation!!!!!!
im trying for about 2 hours now to make the hebrew translation into the game... i convert it to .MO file and now it loads the game with hebrew but it look like this:
i mean, it's not hebrew lol... i dont know how to make it work with HEBREW font!
i put the hebrew "shalomf.TTF" into the C:\Program Files\Wesnoth\fonts folder and i edit the .po file to look like this:
but it still not working... can some1 guide me step by step how to use a NON-ENGLISH font in-game? i can finish the hebrew files with some friends in 1-2 weeks, so it will be great if the "font problem" will be solved soon....

One thing before I can help you at all is that I need to know which Version of the game you did use. Hebrew will NOT work in 1.0.x, the stable line. There is no support for RTL languages and this stuff.
You do have to use 1.1-svn, the current unstable development version. When compiling you need to enable the fribidi support.
I did just try to start the game in the development version in hebrew and it did work perfectly on my mac. At least there is no problem with the font. Though I did not activate Fribidi so the writing direction will probably be wrong.
To have the support for Hebrew in trunk you do NOT need a special font, only Fribidi support compiled into the game. If you do not have this the direction of the text will be wrong. (cf attached screenshot)

Like I already said: You will need 1.1-svn. It will NOT work with the recent releases. Hebrew is NOT supported in the 1.0.x tree (1.0.2 is a part of that). Please have a look at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/WesnothSVN for some infos about how to get the svn version. You will need that and do have to translate these po files, not the ones from 1.0.2. There are already differences between the files.
There is no need to replace the font since the fonts shipped with Wesnoth do support Hebrew. You only need the svn version. I did send the hebrew maintainer a mail. Eventually he is able to help you a bit further.

i tried to use that version:
http://svn.gna.org/svn/wesnoth/trunk/po/wesnoth/
and that one:
http://svn.gna.org/svn/wesnoth/branches/1.0/po/wesnoth/
in the both of them i cant see hebrew...
tell me, he is still working on the hebrew translation? because on the link you gave me it says that he has start working on it a half year ago, and half year is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much time to finish it Oo

The trunk/po version is the correct one but that's only the text data. The executable of Wesnoth you're using is not capable of displaying the translation. In fact there is no official release yet which can do this, that's why you need to compile a development version yourself so far.niranbd wrote:i tried to use that version:

There are two persons working on the translation but since both do this in their spare time and they've got to solve lots of problems with right to left text direction they're not finished and will probably require more time and help. Look at http://gettext.wesnoth.org to see how much is already translated and commited. Or write a mail to Oron and ask him about more details.niranbd wrote: tell me, he is still working on the hebrew translation? because on the link you gave me it says that he has start working on it a half year ago, and half year is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much time to finish it Oo

From the complete 1.0 branch the hebrew support has been removed. These files are not there anymore since it would not have worked at all. Hebrew support is ONLY working in trunk. But you have to compile this yourself. That is where I took the screenshot from. And the writing direction is correct if you have fribidi installed when wesnoth is configured/compiled.
So to use Hebrew you do HAVE TO use trunk. It is NOT a font issue that it does not work in 1.0.2. In there it is generally not supported.

All hebrew translations will appear in development releases. 1.1.1 willl be the first one and probably come out around christmas (no gurantee). Of course there will be 1.1.2/3... afterwards. So your translation will not appear in 1.0.2/3/4 but you're absolutely not wasting your time translating. It'll appear in all new version on the road towards Wesnoth 2.0, just not in the stable 1.0 branch.

There's no .rar archive of the trunk AFAIK and to compile a snapshot for Windows, you'd probably best ask a coder. It's not exactly easy to do this if you don't know much about programming and computers in general.

i am using the files from trunk.... right now me and one guy are transaling one of the scenarios, it will be ready for tommrow i think... i have translat 200 lines in one day...ivanovic wrote:The reason is easy: it won't work anyway!
But you can send in the files you currently have and I can try to merge them with the ones in trunk. Afterwards just use the files from trunk and everything is fine. This way (almost) no work will be lost.

I do not use any "right-to-left" language, but from what I have heard, I think there are more changes necessary than only changing the direction where font is written. The whole screen should be horizontally swapped, that is:
In the main screen, the menu buttons should be at the left part of the screen, and the "tip of the day" on the right part (with the "more" button in its left corner). The shadow on the buttons should be flipped. The logo should go to the left.
In the game, minimap and status should be in the left part of screen, menu button in the top right, etc. Basicly a mirror image should be made of everything.
(Please correct me if I am wrong, but AFAIK this is part of the typical "localization" to RTL languages.)
