version 0.9.3 artwork (villages)

Post by wulf »

hi there!

i dont like the new style of the villages in version 0.9.3.
especially the big villages in combination with an unit look awfull.

the new pictures create this semi-3D-view like in these 3D-simulations,
and if used in a railway-sim the pictures will be nice:).
But in my opinion wesnoth should not go this "realistic" way.
wesnoth should stay 2D.

i suggest to use the pictures of version 0.9.2.

have fun.

In past versions, I found the villages to be the ugliest thing in Wesnoth. In the future, I imagine these villages will improve (and you'll get used to them too, that always happens to me. :D)

Part of what's needed, I think, is for the units to be a bit more 3d. They need their shadows all fixed if they're to look properly with the buildings' shadows...

I like these new villages a great improvement to the old ones.

The villages by themselves are cute. the problem is that they don't fit imho with the rest of the graphic style of wesnoth.

Now, if the art people are willing to reskin all units/terrains, i'm impressed. Otherwise, this looks awkward.

Where did they come from?

Edit: Looks like frame, but how were they drawn?

Sigh.. Yes these villages don't match the terrian at all. But there is another village that is new and isn't as "complex". As the villages I think your looking at, there is one that looks like a cottage that works nicely and fits with most maps.

IMO if these graphics were in place already and the current ones were introduced, almost everyone would be saying that said current ones were not in the graphic style of Wesnoth.

I think they are really nice, but one must consider that not all medieval villages look good like that ones. Most houses were made of wood and straw.

I think they look better, but they don't feel right yet. My brain hasn't learned to associate them in other words. Only thing that looks weird now is swamp villages, etc...

that's not the same perspective as other things, that don't work near castel, near cave wall, and it's too big, and the colors are not in the same family as rest, realy, it has a problem.
