Favorite Unit
Just posted this to see what opinions BfW players have.
I like the Assassin and hi defense units a lot. Especially with that wicked backstab attack of 23-3. Ouch!

Re: Favorite Unit
My favorite is Ancient Lich, second favorite is Elvish Sylph.
I don't think an explanation is required for these two.

Re: Favorite Unit
Mainline & Balanced: Paladin... followed by Drake Blademaster, and Elvish Sharpshooter
As for best-looking unit, the Elvish Hero is my choice, who definitely looks more badass than his counterpart L2s.
I wouldn't consider the Ancient Lich as truly mainline until it's graphics are updated and it's ridiculous overpowered stats are rebalanced(or it becomes a Level 5 but keeps the stats).

Re: Favorite Unit
Grand Knight, Elvish Sylph, Elvish Sharpshooter, Troll Warrior, and Necromancer have been the most fun to control in my experience with mainline campaigns.

Wow, i'm seeing a lot of Lich's and Elvish Sharpshooters. Makes plenty of sense though!

Mainline: Silver Mages. They may not be that good, but the teleport can make for some fun User Maps.
Mercenaries Era: Oh...too much choice!
Others: Probably Darth Saul from the SX pack. There's just something so impressive about an unstoppable demigod thing.

Re: Favorite Unit
My favourites are these, not for "how they affect gameplay" but how they look.
Elvish Ranger (female version): my all times favourite. I like the design of the gear.
Jetrel's Wraith: The sprite itself glows with cool (and it evens deals cold damage )
and from non mainline: Pixelmind fire dragon, it looks cute even as it kills your units

Re: Favorite Unit
Are we talking Default Era units only? In terms of usefulness, that would probably be the Sylph.
If we're talking any mainline unit, well, Li'sar + Sceptre + Void Armor is really fun. Or Thursagan + Sceptre.
In terms of best looking, probably the Drake Enforcer, mainly because you can actually see all three weapons on the unit sprite.

Normally, I ignore spelling errors, but in case anyone wants to know the correct plural of 'lich', it's 'liches'.AladorIsithir wrote:Lich's
By "defense", do you mean "resistance" or "evasion"? Like, high defense as in HI, or as in Footpad?AladorIsithir wrote:I like the Assassin and hi defense units a lot. Especially with that wicked backstab attack of 23-3. Ouch!

Re: Favorite Unit
i do believe he mean 'defence' as evasion, that's the naming regime in the game
well for me i just love the burner->fire->inferno drake line WITH OLD SPRITES. Well alright so burner and fire sprites in 1.7 are ok but inferno looks downright hideous to me. <3 the old style inferno and armageddon drakes.
from umc clockwork dwarves are tons of fun, mainly the gunners, seconded by the primela valkyrie which is a terrifying monster with all those resists and regen

Like cats? I've made a whole faction of them to kick ass with!
Don't like cats? I've made a whole faction of them to kick their asses! So everyone's happy :)
Felinian faction is part of the Beyond Southern Hells era
kitties need sprites! art topic here

Re: Favorite Unit
Mage of Light, no contest.
Fairly nice-looking unit, but its special abilities are what really make it so good. Illumination + heal 8 + cure. Also, its attacks (arcane and impact) mean that this unit is basically the ultimate Undead killer. Its only serious weakness is that (as mages tend to be) its a bit fragile for a level three unit.
This is often my leader when playing Age of Heros on small multiplayer maps (where I can use its abilities to strengthen the troops around me), and especially against Undead. I also usually try to level my mages to this in campaigns.

Re: Favorite Unit
Ulfseeker / Berserker is my favorite.
Of course he dies fast, but he can usually take a few with em in return
Plus they are great for one of the most deciding factors in MP.
Fear Factor.
Even if you don't attack with an ulf, just his presence in your ranks will make you opponent think twice about where he places his ranged units, thus reducing possible attacks on your army as well in return.
