I see Wesnoth going up to a point where everything is polished and most if not all goals are met by version 2. Sometimes i fantasize about something major happening in the process of making that shift, such as a complete move to using 3D sprites and mapping like how silvertree initiated it but keep the turn-based combat as it is. The chance of that happening for now is pretty much next to zero since we all know how difficult and time-consuming it would be.

Then again, why worry so much if this is an open-source project? In the end, the developers who volunteered their time will decide how the game progress regardless of whether or not the end result is what they or the community imagined.

3D sprites? :augh: I would feel sorry for the spriters making them. :lol2:

Also, 3D is overrated :P

No. 3D is a different style to 2D and useful for different purposes. It is not better. Wesnoth is very well-suited to 2D.

can we have an utterly broken 2 faction team? That would go w/ the announcer, in a MvC2 sorta way. Like make drake+undead an impossible to beat 2v2 team XD

Screw 2.0. We're so awesome we can easily skip a version number or two.

Or better let's call it Wesnoth 2000, because 2000 is totally awesome and totally the future.

Instead of making Wesnoth 2000, make a prequel that sets all the campaigns in the Old Continent, before TRoW. Call it Wesnoth Zero.

All three ideas are great: can we compromise and make it "Wesnoth 180"?

It is a loose reference to "Xtreme" sports, it's way more than 2, and it has a zero in it.

What? That would infer that it is half as good as the Xbox 360! We can't stand for that! After all, the reason Microsoft made the Xbox 360 in the first place is because they felt people might see 2 as being inferior to the 3 in PS3. If anything, we should have a Wesnoth 1080 which would add yet another reference, to that of being a year in the early High Middle Ages.

@Dave's IP joke: :lol2:

I want to see headshots and a targeting reticule in Wesnoth 2.0 Then there wouldn't be all this darn luck.
And if you think that was anything other than a joke...

The name isn't really that important I guess as long as its not Wesnoth 360. Everyone knows the good games have nice simple titles like BfW2 and BfW3. When you throw in 360 to "be cool" you're making a statement. And the average age of your players will really begin to reflect it (It goes down).

What about several hundred years from now, when we reach Wesnoth 360.0.0?

Back on topic, the Wesnoth 2.0 I'd like to see is one where turn = round, side turn = turn, and events are first_time_only=no by default.

+1
File I/O would be nice too (or global variables) <_<
And giving WML more control over AI.
And theme WML that can access variables.
And a much more powerful version of [insert_tag]

If wesnoth is really still around and still 2D in several hundred years... I don't know that the 360 cliche would still exist in our pop culture.

Forget 2.0. I think 1.8 will have this!
