Units not under water

Post by KonHaze »

Hi,
Is it normal that in the new wesnoth version the units are not "swimming" if they are at a water field? They are standing on the water like on every other field.

Sorry for bad english.

Yeah, talk about bugs

They seem to stand on the water, like some jesus or something!
It should be fixed.

:annoyed: Easy on the sarcasm please Spookyspider. This game is put together by volunteers in their own time. They fix bugs when they can and don't need you telling them what they 'should' fix. A little less insistent and a little more appreciative of the work of complete strangers would be a good way forward...

Yes I know what you mean. Yes, this game is put together by volunteers, like every other thing in this world in general.
I didn't mean anything bad against the developers and such, but isn't it good just to notice these kind of bugs and report about them?
I hope it will be fixed. On the other hand, great work on this newest update, much much better than the last patch :D

Have you checked the bug tracker and/or posted a bug report?

Well, I just tested (in different scenarios with different units) this so called bug and it's true. Troops of any kind float on the water, they do not swim.
See for yourself in the newest update 1.6

Hint: shallow water is about four feet deep -- just enough for a dwarf's head to stick out.

No, you can't swim in medieval battle gear.

Well, if the units are standing on water, then there's something wrong.
But if they are standing in shallow water (which is what they are doing, I'm also using Windows), then it's perfectly normal.

Oh by the way I noticed that flying drakes now have a different frame when on water hexes, so they're actually "flying." Well done on that :D

Read the first post of this thread. They aren't swimming, thanks for the "hints" though. They shouldn't even swim but they are standing on the water, not below the water. So they walk on the water just like in every other terrain.

Godlike Wose

ouch this is bad indeed

what's very weird is that it works perfectly here.

i'm not sure how we can debug that from a distance...

ok, here are few questions that could give me clues

* do you have any output on the console ? (I am not sure how to get that info on windows, others might help you)
* did you install wesnoth "properly" i.e made sure you correctly deinstalled previous versions
* what add-ons have you installed
* are invisible units correctly semi-transparent
* are ghost correctly semi-transparent

I'm asking some generic questions to try to figure out what's going on, this is quite weird

I doubt it is related to transparency, since ellipses are not even at the proper height. So let me ask something else: Which language are you playing in?

While the question may seem completely unrelated, experience has shown it is not: A long long long time ago (I feel old...), a localization issue prevented floating-point constants from being parsed by Wesnoth, so the submerge attributes were incorrectly set to zero.
