Yes i saw some clans too.. and i was in one ;)

Those "clans" are just a few people playing together.
some of them had a homepage.

those clans were fighting against each other (damn...ours ownt everybody) just for fun.

you can built and join clans whenever you find somone to play with.

Clans are created for a specific purpose. all of them are for fun, and ours promotes anti 3 team games. go to the link in my signiture.

What for?

I don't think it's desired behaviour as it makes people agressive and unpolite

I doubt that.

Only few has some purpose, rest is created to.. uh.. make players feel strength in group what causes them to behave anti-social.

That is wrong if you play out of Wesnoth, but I think that's a good point in Wesnoth itself ><

I once spotted a hilarious conversation between 2 players going:

"Omg this guy wants to nuke the clan with attack tomorrow"
"Yeh what will we do??"
"I dunno, I think I'll fight proudly and quit... Hmm.."
"Really???"
"Yes."

Etc...

I saw some others like those, and it does look like a lot of people take clans seriously, but most smart people make clans for fun in Wesnoth.

Some clans were stupid (like this one : http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6761 ). Some have real purposes, like the N3T or the NF clans. You can't really generalize.

Sounded like ironical humour until the "Yes."
Don't trust me, I'm just average player.

Yup. A lot of it is in how you define the purpose. "Fight each other for fun" is going to lead to agression and unpoliteness. "Work on honing our skills in particular aspects of Wesnoth" probably would not...

what's wrong with aggression/competetiveness? it helps the fun if you feel some pressure to win, especially if you're teamed w/ friends. all clans do is give it organization.

sorry if i'm rehashing old discussions

Competetiveness is ok, agression is not.
I don't know if you like when people swear in games, leave, etc. etc, but surely I do not.
