Wesnoth 0.8.8

Post by isaac »

As you already know Miyo is no longer with us (don't worry, he is still alive), so I will craft releases from now on. As if Miyo's casualty weren't hard enough, our Mighty Rabbit Cedric has also resigned. My best wishes for them.

This release includes great new portraits for The Rise of Wesnoth campaign, updated translations, several scenario fixes and a new multiplayer scenario.

We have also worked in unit balancing and 6 new units are available too.

Of course, lots of bugs have been fixed and the code has been cleaned up.

You can check details at http://changelog.wesnoth.org.

Downloads:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... z?download
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 5?download

Wesnoth-lite should be fully working Wesnoth, it just lacks music and story images (making it smaller and therefore faster to download):

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... z?download
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 5?download

As a fallback you can also get files from http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/wesnoth/ and http://files.wesnoth.org/ - you should first try to get files through SourceForge or Savannah to help us save bandwidth.

devsrv.wesnoth.org is running 0.8.8 and can be used for multiplayer games.

Instructions for bug reporting can be found - http://wesnoth.slack.it/?ReportingBugs

Debian GNU/Linux packages are already available and Mandrakelinux, Mac OS X, BeOS and Microsoft Windows packagers have been informed.

As this one has been my first release I've made some mistakes, I expect this release is good enough and I will do my best to make next release better.

Enjoy it.

How come Deathblades are not included in multiplayer?

I don't know. When asking for them to be included, I forgot to ask for them to be put into multiplayer. Obviously not every new unit gets put into a multiplayer faction. Personally, I think they'd be great in multiplayer, although I'm not sure if they would unbalance the undead faction. But perhaps they shouldn't be included until people who know faction balancing better than me can discuss faction balancing issues. I'd love to see them get included eventually.

Ooops, my bad. I forgot to ask if they should be added to 'Age of Heroes'...

But currently in multiplayer, if you level up a skeleton, you can make it into a deathblade?

yes, there's no ifdefs in the unit.cfg file.

*looks around for Windows*

Does anyone else think that Elilmaldur looks completely NUTTY in the new TROW portraits? With the updated Wose graphics, I believe I'd actually prefer a normal Ancient Wose.

I am too stupid to compile something. When will the disk image version be released?

to quote Miyo: IRWIR (it's ready when it's ready). You'll have to wait until someone like Sithrandel or Crimson Penguin posts a disk image. Sometimes we mac users have to wait several days. You'll just have to be patient.
