Wesnoth 1.2.4

Post by ivanovic »

Wesnoth 1.2.4 is out!

This is a bugfix release for 1.2 and it is compatible with the other 1.2 versions.

1.2.4 has several important bug fixes especially in the area of savegames, replays and recall lists. Though they are not listed in the changelog, they are really included. Some other smaller things have changed, including implementation of safe Python.

You can check details at the changelog.

Downloads:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 2?download (65.4MB) md5sum

The (very tiny) xdelta is available already:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnot ... a?download (1.2MB)

Check http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7034 for info on using xdelta.

The Windows binary is ready, too:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnot ... e?download (59.8MB)

And last but not least, the MacOSX binary, keep in mind that OSX 10.3+ is required:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnot ... g?download (full version, 80.2MB)
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnot ... g?download (lite version (no artwork and music), 48.3MB)

As a fallback you can also get the sources from http://files.wesnoth.org/ - you should first try to get files through SourceForge to help us save bandwidth.

server.wesnoth.org is ready to be used for multiplayer games.

If you have any problems, follow the instructions given in this thread before reporting it as a bug. Instructions for bug reporting can be found at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs

The Debian packages (that can also used with *ubuntu) are ready and available at the usual place (according to issac).
The OpenBSD, OpenSUSE, ArkLinux and Gentoo packagers have been notified, too. These are all in my list of packagers to be notified, I hope their packages are ready soon.

Enjoy!

Hooray! Just when I was starting to question my wisdom of downloading every other release too.

Is this the last in the 1.2.x branch or will there be more? (Out of interest, will download 1.2.4 anyway as soon it gets into Fedora Extras.)

As always, it depends on the number and kind of bugs which might remain in 1.2.X

Btw 1.3.x is still far from reaching stable, so some more 1.2.x releases is something very likely.

Thank You!

I think Wesnoth is a great and high quality game.
fixed Ethiliel not showing up in the scenario "Vengeance" of TSG
I am so glad this was just a bug. After the last release, I thought all of my saved games were borked, and I stopped playing Wesnoth. The timing was good, because I really haven't had time to play Wesnoth anyway.

Now that I know I can continue my saved games again, I am afraid of what I might do.

Thank you for all of your hard work!

Unless windows is radically different from Os X and Linux (in this particular) all you do is install the game and all your old 1.2.x saves should be recognized.

Sometimes it is important to first uninstall the old version, and then install the new one. This is if some files were removed (I do not know if it happened between 1.2.3 and 1.2.4), because over-installing would leave the old files there, which could possibly cause problems.

It is a good idea to backup your saved games before you try this. And if you are in the middle of a single-player campaign, it may be safer to finish this campaign on the old version.

1.2.4 seems to have awful backwards compatibility with older versions...combat seems to cause OOS, and there's turn desynchs as well.

This sucks. Now I will have to update to 1.2.4 just to play certain maps again with 1.2.4 people. Nothing against bugfixes and such, but if it causes incompability(and changes to saves etc. mostly do that) that gets annoying.

Some campaigns didn't work without those changes anymore and they fixed real bugs. Very unfortunate that they creeped into 1.2.x but it happened. We can just hope that 1.3.x will get even more testing once 1.4 is approaching so this won't happen again.

Thanks for the xdeltas. I'll update my bfw 1.2.1 (or was it 1.2.2?) build (I downloaded an extra xdelta, probably).

Why can't you build xdeltas for the Windows installer? Well, I think that it'd be more possible if you put the files in a separate archiver with the installer, i.e.:

install.exe
bfw-1.2.4-win32-bin.tar.bz2

Like the xdeltas for the source code work on the tar.bz2 archive.

OK. Sorry for this _big_ delay..

I just was waiting for 4.1 release :P So OpenBSD 4.1 out, and Wesnoth 1.2.4 (latest stable) is ready too.

Note: it requires OpenBSD 4.1 (so please upgrade)

Previous stable (1.2.3) for OpenBSD 4.0 is also available, but only @ SF.net, not @ my mirror
