The crash when changing the resolution to be "too big" is bug 3705. We don't know what causes it, other than possibly a Mac-specific glitch in SDL.
The broken keyboard alt-hotkeys is bug 5242. Someone who can run gdb successfully, please post a reply to rusty there, I can't do any useful debugging on this.
