1.6 Unexpected Crash

Post by 5dPZ »

First time out of 10+ games I have played on 1.6:

I am playing 2 vs 2 on official server. It was during another player's turn on Isar - suddenly my game closed on itself, without any error messages. I am back to desktop, I logged on again and went back to the game, it just shows I got disconnected.

I am running on Win XP.

Yes, this happened to me too. Twice. Maybe 2 out of 8 games(25%) I have played in the new version.

No error message whatsoever. Just disappeared as if you weren't playing.

Didn't happen with previous versions. Might be video problem?

I am also using xp and 8800GTS video card.

I also experienced this exit without warning crash while playing multi-player.
Seems to happen near the end of one of the tunes. I will double check my ears to see which one it is.

BINGO!
One of the music seems to be corrupt in the Windows release.

the_deep_path.ogg

Right now, one could overwrite this file with a working .ogg to avoid the crash.

Opps, I jumped to conclusion too quickly.

It seems like the_deep_path.ogg used a different codec than the other sound tracks.
While testing the soundtracks, I found my Windows Media Player(WMP) could play all other .ogg sound tracks, except the_deep_path.ogg

After installing some new codecs(from the Combined Community Codec Pack), I found out that WMP could play the_deep_path.ogg.
Thus the file is not corrupt, as I initially thought.
However, I have not tested to see if having the codec would solve the crash problem though.

It's strange because I remember hearing much of the song in game, only crashing near the end of that song.
But I have not crashed ever since overwriting the song with another song.

I wonder if the latest update fixes the problem.

We are 2 players having a similar problem today, and I had also crashes yesterday.
Both under XP
While playing ... Wesnoth windows closes down without notification.
Relaunching is ok but ... annoying a bit when crashes occur 3 times in a row
I'll try to find the info on the log files to report properly.
