The South Gaurd - Ethiliel Missing

More likely that not, I did something wrong. But here I go.
I'm running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn with Wesnoth from the autodownloader.

I got really into The Southern Guard and have gotten to the stage titled Vengeance. A whole bunch of elves come to reek havoc upon the town and you have to stop them. People keep taking to Ethiliel and it even makes you take her to the giant tree. However, my Ethiliel isn't there at the beginning of the stage. As a side note, I noticed all my troops from the previous missions couldn't be recalled any more as if I didn't have any.

My fresh and inexperienced troops continue to get mauled by the elves as I cannot recall veterans and Ethiliel was apparently abducted by aliens. Anyone know of a fix? Attached is a screenshot of all my troops in the beginning.

(Yes, I know my leaders suck, this is my first time playing the game.

)

If upgrading your version doesn't help, then ask again.

Upgrading did work. Ethiliel died and I'm not sure if I should try again seeing as it ended.

Upgrading is a pain though. I discovered I had to find and download a ton of Debian packages. The universe repository for Ubuntu still contains the old version.

Be glad. Before I got the new Ubuntu version, I had to play version 1.1.8

(I couldn't download the new version off the homepage for some reason.
