It means "Nachkomme" or "Sprössling" in German. ;)

From Google:
https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/scion
meaning n°2: basically it's a descendant of a well-known family

Ok.
Desert folks have many tales and myths. Dune Legends seems a bit more appropriate then Dune Scion. Dune Scion sounds so ... unfamiliar.
But just my opinion.

Wikipedia defines "legend" as "a historical narrative, a symbolic representation of folk belief." So i'm not sure if a living person would be denoted a legend.
There is also "living legend", but I believe that's more of a modern term.

Good point. Anyone knows a word synonymous to "Legend" as in a legendary fighter rather then a myth/tale?

Not sure if you are aware, but we are actually using this for the Lv3 Healer, the advancement to Apothecary: Dune Luminary

About "scion": the dictionary definition (according to Wiktionary) is indeed something about descendants, though rather than "descandent of a well-known house" I think the intended meaning is more that they're the originators of said house.

But the term has been used in Dungeons and Dragons with a slightly different meaning, referring to someone who wields a legendary weapon with great skill. (For example, D&D 3.5 Unearthed Arcana.) So given that sense, I think it would be suitable here.

About other suggestions people have come up with: Prodigy and examplar are kinda weird-sounding, phenomenon doesn't really make sense... I'd say "paragon" is the best by far.

Summary: I now support either Dune Scion or Dune Paragon.
Author of The Black Cross of Aleron campaign and Default++ era.
Former maintainer of Steelhive.

I fully support Dune Paragon, its meaning fits: it means that person is exemplary and a model of excellence, of what quality is up to us to decide in this case; we can focus on martial skills or virtues or leadership, probably all of them are to be considered for such a title. I like it.

A day and night passed and looking back on it, these names don't sound that bad after all. Currently we are having this ... Any thoughts on wether the Lv3 Chakram shoudl be called Windblade or Bladewhirler ? The old candidate Bladewind wasn't like that much in the end.

Dune Soldier, Dune Captain, Dune Warmaster
Dune Soldier, Dune Swordsman, Dune Blademaster, Dune Scion / Dune Paragon

Naga Slasher, Naga Dervish, Naga Executioner
Naga Slasher, Naga Ringcaster, Naga Windblade / Naga Bladewhirler

There are weapons named "wind and fire wheels" which are basically chakrams but melee only. If the lv3 Naga uses them in melee too it could be a nice reference to an existing weapon.
ghype wrote: June 8th, 2019, 9:59 am Naga Bladewhirler
It is interesting that "to whirl" means "to spin or cause something to spin" (here) which means it could even be used for the advancement of the Naga Dervish.

I'm torn between the two, maybe I need a refreshment of the unit stats to decide. Let's also notice that both use a generic "blade" in the name, which does not really specifies the real weapon unlike "Ringcaster".
