I think that the differienciation between levels could be accentuated. Sure, some details do change, but I feel they're not enough. For instance, I'm not always 100% sure the armor is an improvement (I know, Lv3's cape hides it, but still). Sprites could (should?) get a little taller, maybe also even wider, as they level. You can give them more killer poses, more badass equipment... It's a level 3 (or even 4)! It should be your elite units and look like it. You can't have them being even remotely confusable with the level 1s! Make their brush thing on their helmet more extravagant, give them bigger or cooler weapons and shields, or something... Aother way to go about this is to reduce the lower levels in size, weapon biggerism and overall coolness, but they already are a bit sober, so... :hmm:

Also, I'm not a big fan of the Lv2's armor, it sticks out quite a bit. But in general, the sprites are good.

Trust me, as a general rule never add red rather than TC - almost always use TC.

The L1 has a really bizarre head.

dixie: He´s a lvl.4 but he is a spartan and basicly he´s not about looking good but being a solider, but i can see what you mean, so i´ll do some changes we´ll see what will it look like, after all a little practise never hurts.
the thing is they are hoplites and the main diference between them was the armor they could afford, but they all used dory spears and hoplon shields,so i tried to keep that in the sprites. As for the stance I thought about it but i couldnt find a good one and a logical one besides this(although i will make the other branch have his spear resting on his shoulder).
reepurr:if it was some other unit i would use TC without questioning, but spartans are known for their crimson capes, and later the lambda on shields so i wanted to put both in the sprite,so im still not sure about it. does it look TC heavy with the cape in TC?
I wanted it to be a basic helmet, maybe i should change it if it´s not obvious?

Only 1px bigger? UH OH.

I would suggest that since these units have very similar equipment, whereas mainline human loyalists generally have a noticeable equipment change every level, you make them 2px larger per level.

And no, I can't think of any decent equipment changes for a hoplite.

Different helmets would go a long way toward differentiating the units and there were a lot of greek helmet designs in use over the centuries to reference from. Even different plums on the helmet would help without being too much trouble to implement. Some other options are changing up the stances slightly, with different placement of the feet, rotation/size of the shield, angle of the spear, etc. however, I'd start with the helmets and go from there.

The pose/stance you have works well, but I also suggest trying 2 pixels of difference for each level (I usually use the eyes as the measuring point, not the tops of helms/plums, etc) to see how it looks. Your high level units will end up looking fairly small alongside mainline counterparts of equal level I think.

I know, but i think that the corinthian helmet is iconic, and i will use diferent ones in diferent branches, but i´ll see ,maybe i´ll give a more opened one to lover levels.

it looks like it's going to be a south-attack frame, mm by the way may i suggest making those spears a little longer? Compare to the rl picture on the previous page - the metal part could start about the height where the helmet hair end

The greaves are totally pillow-shaded. It's been bugging me for some time.

The head is very short and squished. It looks like it probably needs expanded by a pixel in each direction, moving the whole thing up one pixel and working in an extra two as you go down, preferably in the bottom part as the top of the helmet looks good, just needs more room for the face.

The visible thigh is indeed too thin.

You are definitely improving quickly, Keep it up. Your sprites are motivating me to be a little more productive myself ;)

Ok,and what do you all think about the crest,is it good?
I´ll get around to fix the legs later today, but i lenghtened the helmet for one pixel,so if its still small i´ll make it a bit bigger after i do the legs.

You could also do with outlining the shield and more importantly, giving it a properly regular shape. The edge looks really rough at the moment.
