Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
Basically, one leg was being munched on by a couple of Walking corpses and Necrophages before this guy was turned into a Skeleton. The way I see it, I think I should raise the leg a little haha. As for the cross, there's little I could do to improve it as I've yet to learn the technique for doing so. As for the limbs... Aren't they already like that? It's Wesnoth art, everyone's supposed to look like kids.Zerovirus wrote:The legs are mismatched for a perfectly logical reason I'm hoping. The chest's cross is too... straight. It doesn't imply any puffed-out ness like in a normal human chest. The cross's perfectly straight lines make it look a bit flat, like someone taped a piece of cardboard painted with a white and black cross to his torso armor. Also, his proportions look.. Stumpy. The limbs are a bit too short in appearance but I'm not sure what the exact problem is.
EDIT: I'm going to take this opportunity to present more artwork being done. Today's highlights are the new flags which are still not very well done. Okay, I'll be frank. They stink. I'm no artist haha.
EDIT: Hey guys, it's been a while since I last created any new art, but here it is- the Order Sniper.

Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
Oh darn outta space. I'm gonna post more of my artwork here.
EDIT: I've been playing around with the unit sprites, and I have more to show. First off- I am well aware that my art is lousy and there are many flaws. Due to my serious lack of visual artistic skills, I cannot fix most of the problems and ugly stuff that crops up. For example, the cross being 2D is something I'm only beginning to understand how to counter while the cloth looking like a cardboard is something I'm very far from dispelling. Anyway, here are some of the stuff I'm working on.
As you guys can see, the officers are given chest cloths of a different sort, to identify them as officers. I have more art to show you guys but I've hit the attachment limit again. I might post again later but maybe not. See ya'll
EDIT: Okay, they suck. But this is more or less the best I got... XD

Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
Before I did anything with the Cavalryman, I was thinking of putting the insignia on the helmet . But putting it on the shield would be nice . I never liked my current version of the Order Cataphract, like what one of the guys said, the cloth looks more like a cardboard taped on a person's chest. For my next version of the Cataphract, I might put it on the shield according to your suggestion, but I may decide to challenge myself by putting it on the more 3D helmet... If I know how the Cavalryman's head is orientated .
EDIT: By the way, some art news... I have made even more art that is supposed to animate the units ever since my last post, but I haven't released them because I'm busy with the other aspects of my campaign and life has been difficult for me. I've been busy in real life too... Specifically with my personal pre-military training- I would need them if I want to do well in conscription/National Service and not suffer from my lack of fitness.

Riot Duty!
I hate the sticks. But I guess they'd have to do for now.

Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
i would make them bigger, like a thug's club. or maybe you could make them training swords made of wood for less damage? and give them bigger shields. riot cops are supposed to defend mostly.
what would there purpose be in your faction? cheaper but weaker units?

Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
Sorry for not replying . Becoming hedonistic these days (i.e: Going to restaurants, movies, spending time with family, growing a little fatter, playing computer games, etc). Something to do with my approaching army enlistment day. Anyway,
Why didn't I think of that. I think I can frankenstein these medieval riot cops by using the thug's club or the ruffian's. I'd have to make a choice though, I've never thought of training swords and I think it's a great notion. As for bigger shields, I've tried frankensteining but... I didn't like what I saw. I've been thinking of those great big wooden shields though that are shaped like pavises: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Balestriere1.jpg
As for the purpose of these units... I was just mostly doing them for fun, in a vain attempt to improve my abysmal art skills as well. They may not serve any purpose in the end, but they will be purely campaign troops if they are ever used- should there be a scenario where you need to quell a riot instead of mass murdering peasants. They won't be permanent members of the Guardian Order faction.

Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
no problem: i forgot to check this thread until now anyways.
the closest shields to that (and actual riot gear shields) are either dwarf stalwarts or royal guards (those would need a recolour though). you could also resize them if you want, or add self drawn parts to make them look better. Or even make your own.
i suggest the thug club, because the ruffians is too small, even for riot duty.

Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
Let's see what I can do . I might come back within 24 hours with some interesting concepts. I hope they won't be interesting in a sort of lousy-and-laughable way though. I failed art pretty badly ever since my grade 1-6 days and I've never really gotten over my major artistic disability. Just yesterday I copied a simple chick cartoon and the legs of the young chicken was far too long .

Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
I encourage you to progress beyond the simple field of recoloring and to progress by making more frankensteins. They may not seem as good as recolors at first sight but one has to start sooner or later. Besides, it's a fast way to learn and make new units.
Or, if you're really feeling up for some fun, try making some full custom units. It's fun.

Re: Guardian Order Art Thread
Well, I did make ventures into frankensteining and making totally custom units. While my Frankensteins came alive with a bolt of lightning from my thinking cap (refer to my crossbowmen and below, my riot soldiers), my custom units were... too odd to be used at all. They were normally out of sized and 2D. I'll keep trying whenever I'm able to break out of my lazy spells. I watched a movie and ate in a restaurant yesterday heh. Anyway, here's the result of my efforts to improve the riot order units:
The Auxilia's not be changed though. The staff would have to stay as I want variety. Special riot shields are not added yet but I'd say the club I frankensteined from the old Thug image has worked pretty well.
