Art for The Silver Lands - Ice Wyrm sprite

Post by Quietus » January 13th, 2009, 12:40 am

This is where the art for "The Silver Lands" will be developed. "The Silver Lands" is Espreon's indirect sequel to IFtU, and it will be released to the public "soon." -Espreon

As requested by Espreon, a revamp of the ice maiden for the Elemental Monarchs.
I modified the concept a little so i hope you dont mind. Her kimono is a little different and she has a staff. The red has been replaced with blue as origionally it didnt really fit th whole "ice thing". Oh and the glow around the top of the staff needs work.

Ill post both the origional and revamp for comparison.

Note, the reason why im posting this in the era thread and not a PM to E, is because i just wanted to show something for the last 2 months of doing nothing

Now back to those damn bulls

He does exist! I think you drove Espreon up a wall thinking you had left him.

The Minotaurs miss you I am sure. ;)

Nice work by the way, I like that she does not hover anymore.

Some updates:

By request: Made her taller, sorted her face out, cleaned up the kimono and changed the staff a little. I know it doesnt look much iceyer, but the transparent effect looks quite cool in game

EDIT: Mispelling of kimono...silly me

Nice job! Though, her legs appear to be a little short, and the shading on her skirt is a bit too regular... :hmm:
Anyway, good work! :D
Out of curiosity, is it meant to be a kimono, or a kimono-like-garment (IE loose, wide sleeves, etc)?

Ah. Well... I know this is rather nitpicky, but in that case, you may want to add some more detailing of the folds and whatnot--More specifically, the edge of the left plate on top of the right plate should be visible--As-is, it just looks like she's wearing a skirt :hmm:
Anyway, good work! Keep it up! :D

Hey there. The ice queen sprite above and Sorum'tar's sprites are awaiting revision, and I got the opportunity to draw these. They will come later but now here's first progress at 'Ice Wyrm' sprite.
Image
screen left...screen right
It's supposed to be a base frame for flying (with wings). The crest on the left one was meant as being mostly ice. The left one is the latest, the other seemed a bit too unimpressive and mundane to me. This preview mostly lacks shading and the coloring is going to be different.
Afaik the wyrm will attack with it's breath, tail and mouth and it will both fly and sit in naga-like posture at some point.

Holy [censored].

That, if it gets finished, will be epic.

In my opinion, there is a bit too much noise in the left one's crest. And to be honest, I think that the right one's crest is just fine.

Sorry if I sound ungrateful.

Indeed. The left-hand one is kinda noisy. The right one is awesome!

I personally like them both; perhaps they could be male and female variants? The crest size difference follows the patterns of sexual dimorphism well.

The epic-size of the sprite suggests that the entity it represents would be rather singular. Of course fighting a mated pair of them would be pretty cool too.

if you look at the heads(not sure if it is what everyone is calling a crest or not) it kinda looks like they are wearing ice crowns imo

thanks for the replies. here are the others...
Sorum'tar from level 1 up

Sorum'tar's design is based on the old sprites, which arguably look better.

for the dragon I abandoned the fancy headpiece and made the body a bit curved.
