Organized Art Topic: Reload

I've been interested in helping redo the Desert Elf sprites, and since my first was a Desert Hunter, Mist encouraged me to complete the set. So I thought to begin with Nym, since I won't have to do additional sprites for advancements.

This sprite is mostly raw; the colors are borrowed from megane's edit of my original hunter. The closest thing I have to a reference is actually smaller than the current sprite; it's a sprite sheet of Lyn of Fire Emblem.

Any advice would be helpful.

The base is quite good already but the black within the sprite is just too strong compared to the surrounding red.
Some darker red might do the trick. In general some part of the outlines
could get a brighter color to break up the line work.

I cheated a bit shading to get a feeling for it. Just some fast scribbels smooth out of the wrist. Don't stretch yourself too much.
I did neither. (and no I erased nothing really could this eyes lie )

Were there actually going to be a series of instruction steps for how to do portraits or are we just expected to take a blind punt and we'll refine it from there?

It's official my computer hates me and the scribbles I call art. I will be separated for 2 weeks or more from any PC with a working graphic program.
The bad news is I must leave some work undone I've promised.
The good news I can still help with useless advice and my nonpareil presence.

I'm out of business.
I have started a small introduction post one page before though.
And yes just some it would have just been some doodles.
