I wanted to do this, but this weekend sucks homework-wise... if you haven't moved on to the next step by Tuesday I'm in though.

The black lines are getting in the way of things a bit. But oh well.
Thanks for the edit and feedback waydow. I think I got what you mean with the two layers of the cape.

But I'll post my psd file here with linework. You could still participate. If it is OK for you. Otherwise a quick sketch should be enough. I needed half an hour for mine max and I drank a coffee.

Is there any reason Turin can't just play catchup? ie. Post his linework on tuesday, then move straight onto the next stage with the rest of us?

Uhh well. Redeth you invested quite much time in this I think (looks finished on is own yet ). The problem is later we just overdraw the black linework. The should just be a help neverthe less you will have later less problems with the detailing.

Your participation all in all is nice. I wish I had time for this. I must get back to my code duties, but I guess I could give this a try this weekend.

I'm not clear what you mean by that. Can you rephrase, please?jdsampayo wrote:How I must draw the head?

Sorry I'm not very good in English, I mean, how much I must detail it? or what lines I must considerate? Only the eyes, nose and mouth or also the scales(or it is some kind of hair?)?

Entirely up to you, i'd've thought. But personally, i'd put minimal detailing into the line work, since it's just too difficult to get that sort of detail into lines that this stage.

Also good as the thespaceinvader said. It is up to you the linework is just there to get the shape right.jdsampayo wrote:How I must draw the head?
If it helps you to sketch it out it is Ok but later the linework will get removed or entirely recolored depends on how you shade the sprite.
@Shadow Master it is still time to jump in.

Next topic: Everything is hand-crafted
In this step we will just choose the color of the sprite and lay out the basic shading. That means one color and at least 3 different shades of it.
I would advise pastel colors for the bases. Not so bright not so saturated this are exclusive for the smaller shades.
I was lazy I took one prime color and used it on the whole sprite (I have still used at least 3 shades for every area though)
That's why I have chosen this big guys.
Example:
Before you start don't overdo it it is just another step. The aim is to get the basic shape and light directions right. You mustn't beat the the sprite to perfection yet.
Basicly you try to emulate the light that falls on the object. That is actual not completly exact but it is close enough to the truth.
For some further info read this
and our own internal Tutorial about shading.
One note though avoid pillow shading. Don't choose the darkest color at the beginning you'll have no room for the shadings later.
So again just a small step it mustn't look perfect yet.
(advised tool is the pencil)

Turin's attempt at step one; also known as "what turin did when he should have been studying".
I'll hopefully get around to step 2 before you post step 3.
