No offence intended, but these look worse than the current ones - they're still green for one, thing, and would stand out like a sore thumb in a desert. They look much bigger and bulkier than the original sprites, and the shading has lost a lot of definition.

Yeah, your version really lacks the shading.
I think (and I think I'm not the only one that thinks so) that these coloring edits from the mainline wood-elves just don't do it. A long time has passed since the elves race last stepped on forest, so I guess their customs and clothing must have changed too, as it happened to their skills. So, although coloring might do it as a temporal solution, IMHO it would be way better to draw some partially from scratch. I'd really appreciate if someone did this, because... well, you'll see why when it's time.
Besides, current desert elves lack the TC coloring and new shape of the mainline wood elves, and don't tell me they don't need TC coloring. People who have played UtBS entirely know why.

This does raise an interesting question, though - is it the case that the UtBS sprites are on the list for attention? If that is the case, is there a plan for what to do with them, or simply a thought that they need looking at?
If the latter, would having them wear burnoose/burnous (depending on spelling - see images) be appropriate? And maybe having some or all of the cavalry riding camels instead of horses?

Personally, I'd suggest just recolouring the wood elves. And maybe tuning a few sprites (avenger and champion for example have some bling decoration which might not fit that well) and of course redrawing the hunter line accordingly. The reason is that otherwise you need a whole factionful of new sprites which you must also animate from scratch; a crapload of work, and I don't see anyone competent enough as being interested in doing that. For something like desert elves, which are featured in one mainline campaign, a recolouring job would seem like the best solution to me.thespaceinvader wrote:This does raise an interesting question, though - is it the case that the UtBS sprites are on the list for attention? A valid point.
I hadn't even realised that the desert elves were anything other than recoloured (current) wood elves - i now realise they're recolours of old sprites. There's not an enormous amount of difference, and i've only played the first scenario of UtBS. I guess it's a case of 'in an ideal world' vs. realism on this one...
