a good point, but then i recomend "fancy" and "flashy soft hues" if possible

Surely. I was thinking blues and greens. i just have to make them not look too much like modern clothes...

Anywho... i tried a bit of shading on the Great/longshield type i did. here it is, i'm not totally sure about it. And the shield's magenta (teamcolour) because at the last minute i forgot he needed a TC portion somewhere. So where better than the field of the shield. not sure what to do with that big expanse though...

The armour's all over, and looks a lot heavier. I was trying for a gorget-y sort of arrangement protecting his face where the spear goes past the shield.

EDIT: looks much better against a darker b/g than the forum one... adding with a green background.

Oh, and the spear haft is horribly aliased. not really sure what to do about that.

The whole thing needs antialiasing and shading, for starters.

It is shaded (look at it up close, you'll see), apart from the shield face, but i'm not all that good at metal textures. I think i might just leave these and move on to something else.

Shield needs some serious shading, and you really just need to redo the spear as anti-aliased...

I like the rough draft, especially the pose.

He's a little clean for a Brohdokai, but thats texturing im sure.

Perhaps the metal of this amror is a differnet color? bronze? or some deep gold? Something earthy.

I'll take a shot at a bronzey version, maybe with some darker edging. But that'll be tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a rough sketch for a pebblemancer. I thought maybe a duster type coat for some reason. i think i just like the long and flowing thing, but don't like robes...

Clearly it needs a lot of work, but what are your thoughts on the concept?

I think that the pebbles moving/floating around would be better as Halos of the unit rather than to be inside the unit graphic.

Right now all we're going for is better sprites, some sort of standard to build off of. Right now its a chick in a blue coat with stones stuck in space around her head. :-/ anythings an improvement.

About the guy with the duster - Yes i like him, but two things:

A) A the sophisticates of the Jahanka disdain darker colors. Dark colors are like the earth tones, that looks great for the get up a scout might wear, but the Jahanaka are all about the mind. Knowledge, geekdom, contraptions, inventions, rennaissance, BLUES. Sky blues and greens. Things that remind of us the heavens, above, our brains, etc

THe duster look is cool, its just not particularily one that would fit a cosmopolitan (in the rennessaince period or there abouts) look.

B) I'm not sure how i feel about the tourban, seems more near-eastern than I envision their people. I'm not saying its off, it could be a Jahanka thing only. I'm ambivilant.

Just my thoughts,

They were the prettiest of the factions and the one's i initially modeled the Qesicans on. They have evolved quite a bit of course.

Still I'm confident in both of your abilities and anxiously (yet paientely) await whatever drafts you come up with.

Yup made all of them. They actual started a bit like you faction.
I'll try to come up with something when I find the time.

>.< it's supposed to be blond hair. I can see how you missed that though...

Hmm, anyway, i'll see what i can do with something different. i might retain the duster for something else of mine, since you don't like it. not sure what, yet, but i'm pleased with how it came out =)

How's about something a little more like this - with some shading, obviously:

Yes! With some texturing, and shading, and a bit more militerism - that looks much much much closer to my idea of the Jahnaka.

A bit flashy is perfect. Though im not familiar with what specifically constitutes color matching in dress - im sure that it gets closer to that notion with shading.

You're definitely on the right track.

Also - I LOVED the duster, its just not Jahanka like. But it does strike me as good for the Scout OR the Freedmen. The Freedmen would be the best qualifier as they're all about utility.

=) You can have that unit for hatever you want. let me know which unit you think it suits and i'll run up some edits and shading etc. I'll work on the pebblemancer some more tomorrow, it's kinda late now.
