No idea about that. Don't think it has anything to do with the era either.

On XP, download goes to My Documents>My Games>Wesnoth1.7>data>add-ons

EDIT in 1.7.8 there is a userdata folder in the main Wesnoth folder for add-ons.

In the EditingWesnoth Wiki it states:

"Starting from Wesnoth 1.6 it can be in MyDocuments\My Games\Wesnoth1.6 on Windows XP or Documents\My Games\Wesnoth1.6 on Vista. "

I'll try later in Ubuntu and see what it does.

4.1.5, Final Version.

I think I know why it doesn't work. There were syntax changes in 1.7.8.

Guess you will have to wait until a stable version is released or just get 1.6.5.

I modified the cfg files to match the Ranged Era syntax for 1.7.9

I was able to start a battle and recruit units.

Hope this helps and it works.

I'd rather wait for the next stable version to come out. There is no point in rushing this.

I don’t fully understand how Torch attacks work

The description says for Sneak ability “when used offensively during nighttime, this attack will have its accuracy raised to 100%” and the list of attacks from Guerrilla shows

Image

But when I attack, at night, the damage is changed from 40-1 to 1-1

I am doing something wrong? Or it is supposed to only work on mechanicals (garrisons/etc) because of their -50% fire resistance or something like that?

Yes, fire is supposed to be used on things made of wood, which can be set on fire, not on people. And if you attack something with high resistance against an element, it will do less damage, which is the case, it doesn't have anything to do with the attack itself. And "Sneak" does what is supposed to do, it raises accuracy to 100%.

4.1.7 released.

Umm... People would still get burned and/ or set on fire...

I've heard of people using axes against riflemen in wars in colonial Africa, but I've never heard of anyone trying to torch formations of infantry. Also it doesn't sound like something very practical to do to set fire soldiers clothes one by one. Anyway, if you, by any chance, gave it a LITTLE thought you'd understand why I made everything but wooden things immune to fire.

if you're not going to change the file paths for the 1.7 version, perhaps it would be best to remove it from the add-on server since it doesn't actually work?

Good idea, but I'd have to download 1.7.X again. Thought they can download the patch posted by Paul.
The thing is that I cannot change it now because 1.6.5 uses a different syntax and location, also I don't know for sure which changes in syntax will be permanent or if there are going to be made new changes to it.

Thanks

I've got confused because when I first saw the torch attack, I remembered the Goblin Pillager, so I though it was a "normal" attack.
